    Default Counting down....

Less than 24 hrs to go before the planes leave AMERICA......
Ben has told us it would seem that the main push of this deployment is to bring home troops and assist the Iraqi police. He said it looks like his battalion is the last ones out next August according to Obama's plan.
They are destined for the northern area of the country and he believes it to be a safer area than where he was last year......if there is such a thing as a safe area there.
But he has a magnificent attitude and looks forward to getting back to the job and those he left behind when he was sent home.
This is who he is and we couldn't be more proud of our son, it will never be easy on his parents though.
He looks forward to his return home next year, and beginning his helicopter pilot training, he has all of his clearances covered and just needs to get back and go to Ft.Bragg for school, ( it looks like jump school is first i guess) so he really has something to hold on to while he is gone.
Again, Thank you for your support of our son and our nations soldiers, past and present.

    Chas,

I am keeping Ben in my thoughts while he's over there.

In fact, having my boy here has me very secure of William's well being, and when I hear news from the combat zones, I think of Ben.

I have about 20 service members (USAF) working for me, and it still amazes me and makes me feel proud when I see them rise up to the challenges and move forward towards a fruitful military career.

Ben seems to be heading in the same direction...

    Congratulations!

They are off and on the way to Kuwait. He said about 3 weeks there before they enter Iraq.
A sleepless night for me and Mom but it will get better.

He just called from Ireland saying the flight was good and he grabbed a few hours sleep.
It was 11 pm there and they were about to finish the trip to Kuwait in a few moments.
So far its all been good and he sounded like he was in a perfect frame of mind.
Again, Thank you for your thoughts here and prayers for Ben and our soldiers....Past and Present.

No worries Chas, it's old-hat to Ben now. He'll do great, just like last time.

Good for him then, that's really the way you have to approach it.

As for me I've moved to MD and will be starting grad school classes tomorrow. I also transferred into the Guard so I'm a weekend warrior now as opposed to active duty. I don't know if this will be a permanent switch or if I will re-enter active duty at the end of my degree but I wanted to be able to decide so I'm doing this on my dime as opposed to the Army's.

    What a great thread!

My sister and brother in law are both deployed right now. She's an E3 and he's an E6.

I'll probably be deployed next year. Kind of thinking about holding off on a purchase of a C5 Z06 or C6 because of that.

Does Ben need anything? My sister found it difficult getting certain things such as baby wipes, sweets, etc...

    Default What a surprise!

Just before he left for Iraq, Ben told us that he has finally be given clearance and has been accepted to begin helicopter pilot school.
Now this was no great surprise as we knew that he had wanted to fly....But why so much clearance and such...we just didn't understand?Just figured it was the way it had to be done....Well now we know.
Ben is going to become a Black Hawk Helicopter Pilot!!!!!
He starts school when he returns from this tour next year........I am still just beside myself here and can't put into words how it feel to know just how successful he has become in his military career.
What a great ride he is having gang!
I guess its ironic that he would be a Red Wing guy in a Black Hawk, Eh Patrick??

    Charlie and Theresa

Heres some action video of what he has chosen to do for his country!
