Big Three put pedal to metal in Cruise marketing

The Woodward Dream Cruise might have started as a local homage to classic muscle cars, but today's international event is a big marketing opportunity for automakers to promote their newest vehicles.

It also is a bonanza for engineers and designers to drink in what enthusiasts do to their cars, spot trends and spark ideas that can be implemented in the cars of tomorrow.

While some industry observers say the event preaches to the converted, others believe Woodward becomes a rolling billboard for cars of all description, which will net new buyers.

The Dream Cruise attracts 1.5 million people and license plates from many states and countries. Those attending this year's event will see further evidence of the comeback of Detroit's Big Three automakers in their massive displays and events.
