On my 69 , the former owners hit something and broke a piece of the fiberglass off.
They didn't keep the piece and I was wondering if anyone here could answer a few questions.

Here is the picture of the broken body part.

What is this section of the car officially called? I would call it the front body air-dam panel, but I doubt that is what its called.

Does anyone know if there are repair panels for this broken section sold by any vendor?

If not sold, how hard would a piece like this be to fix by a reputable fiberglass-capable body shop?

thanks

It's come that time of year where the vettes aren't driven quite as much and the tinkering begins.
Last winter was the interior replacement on our vette. This year the plan is the following:
1. replace body mounts.
2. clean up engine bay including cleaning/repainting engine.
3. installing new-to-me M/T valve covers
4. detail anything that needs it under the hood including repainting if needed
5. repair and/replace any vacuum lines that are dry rotted
6. paint the chassis as much as possible

With the interior done, it has become necessary for the ugly and dirty engine bay to get a freshening and get it to look as presentable as the interior.
It's quite ambitious and with the baby this year will probably not all get done but it's worth a shot :)

So what is everyone else planning on doing during the down time?

or should I say, lack of:L. Things have been moving along, however slowly. Yesterday I (finally) finished cleaning up and painting the frame. That is a job I don't want to do again. The gas tank is out and awaiting replacement with a new one. New body mounts and brake lines have been put in. The fuel lines have to be installed and that will be much tougher because of the routing thru the frame and up/over the rear section of frame rail. With a frame-on resto, it will require a lot of swear words and a lot of luck (more the former) to get them on. After that I can install the rear suspension including the trailing arms which have been outfitted with new bushings. Two years ago I replaced the half shafts with 3" ones along with Moog U-joints so they just have to be given a new coat of paint and reinstalled. I plan on freshing up the top end of the motor with Aluminum heads and a roller cam. I figure that alone will be good for another 30-50 hp. That is a project for over the winter. :w

I am looking for an early christmas present to myself. I was thinking new wheels would be great. I dont like the look of the huge 17 inch wheels on the old cars so definitely staying with a 15. everyone has a torq thrust variant.

I am really starting to like the look of the ansen sprint polished wheels.
these are the only ones i can find in a 15x8, 0mm offset. 4.5 backspace. with a half inch more backspace than stock what is the likelyhood that they will fit easily.

thanks,

Just saw a news report this morning about a driver being shot by police after using his Corvette as a weapon. The car was a late '70s or early '80s C3 (sorry I'm not that up on the later C3s to id it). It looked to be in good condition and was paint black over silver (the silver was around the bottom foot or so of the car) with factory alloy wheels. The driver tried to run over officers after they stopped him, they fired shots and then he stopped a few miles later, probably as a result of his wounds. The right front corner of the car was crunched, the windshield had bullet holes through it and the driver side window and rear window (in the "hatch") were shot out and the car was sitting in the middle of the street in the heavy rain with the door open. Sad for the car! They didn't say if the car was stolen or not - but the rain was not doing the interior any good. The story was on KNBC channel 9, I imagine they will have pictures later. I think their web site is Kansas City News, Kansas City, Missouri News, Weather, and Sports - KMBC Kansas City's Channel 9

Got up this morning to a nice day and the wife and I decided to take a cruise up to the Boone-Blowing Rock area.:) It's not but an hour north of us. Thought we would have lunch somewhere around there and do some window shopping.
Well, as usual things don't go as planned. I decided to keep on going north up 321(for those who live around here in NC) got to the 321,421 split and took 421 towards Bristol TN. Little did we realize what a ride it is.:eek There is a section called the Snake. 22 miles of narrow 2 lane back and forth, hairpins and shear dropoffs.:D Just what these things were built for. I think it was the 3rd time I squealed the tires in a corner the wife "Calmly" asked me to slow it down.:chuckle About halfway thru there is a general store. Good for a rest stop and check out the bikes and other cars going thru there. They also have a "Wall of Shame". While there we were trying to figure out to keep going to Bristol or head back to Boone for lunch. She did not want to go thru there again. So, north bound we went to Bristol. Little did she know another 11 miles of the same thing.:L
Haven't been to Tail of the Dragon YET, but it's close.
Anyway, we finally got to Bristol, had lunch and headed back home. Lo and behold there's the Speedway. Quick U-turn and we pulled in. I've been there before but she hadn't. Unfortunately they have the x-mas tour going and I couldn't pull up close enough.
Left there and headed south again down 19 towards 321 and Boone and home. We left here at 9 in the morning and pulled in the driveway at 4.
I figure it was over a 200 mile round trip.
The reason I'm stoked is it's the first time taking this car on a trip like that. Only had the car a couple months. It ran flawlessy and I won't think twice about doing it again.
Oh, and the other Vettes we saw on the road did give the :w even some guys on the Harleys.
Sorry for long post, just happy we finally took a "cruise" with it.

In most of the threads and google searches I've done on how to gravity bleed your brakes. It is always mentioned that the rear caliper has two bleeder screws. One on the inside and one on the outside.

The calipers on my car that I replaced had this format. One bleeder screw on the inside up high and one on the outside down low.
On my old calipers, there was also a non-bleeder screw placed in the outside high position.

The new 'rebuilt" calipers I bought from local parts store Had an extra bleeder screw in the outside high position. This is for a total of 3 bleeder screws per rear caliper.

Anyone have an idea why there is a bleeder screw in that position for the rebuilt caliper and how does it effect the order when bleeding?

thanks

Arrrgh, not again.. Vacuum Headlight Issue and Fuel Vapor question

Yes, perfect timing for my passenger side headlight to act up again. I replaced the dust boot and seal on the vacuum actuator a few month back and it was working perfectly.

It starts getting darker, i need the lights now and it's not behaving.

So, i check on a couple of things real quick (Didnt have time on the weekend) but dont find anything conclusive. I am thinking about replacing all of the dang vacuum hoses for the headlights to prevent the age issue (Mine look like they have been renewed once, but that must have been 16 years ago). Dunno yet. Zip has them for $49 for the kit. Any thoughts? Or am i overreacting? ;shrug

I did find that the AC Selector (inside) started popping the middle plastic button that holds it together so i McGyvered that back in, no more hissing there, but i need to replace it.

But i did come across a hose that looks awefull. From the top of the manifold outlet where the vacuum comes from to the fuel vapor solenoid (i think). That thing is nasty looking and definitly needs replacing. I cant find it on the usual vendors.. Anyone have a clue? ;shrug:W

I want to toss a couple of items together so i can carry them back (We'll be in the States in 2 weeks for a family visit) and already have the weather strip kit for the doors at my mother in laws.. :thumb

Thanks in advance, as always..

:w

I'm in the process of getting my shark back to a daily driver after six years in the garage (I went back to school). Anyhow, the car has a leaky caliper and I'm looking at replacing everything with the VB&P o-ring calipers.

On the site, I can buy new calipers or re-manufactured calipers with or without insulators. The price difference is $120. They can't be charging that much for anti-squeal pads for the backs of the pads, can they? Please help me understand what these are and why I should or should not pay $120 for them.

Thanks!
