Leaving the club at 330am on sat night. My car made an obxnious backfire Outta my tail pipes,I let of the gas and taped it again and another backfire...then stall.. (I have straight pipes btw, I've had them for 6 months now) car will turn over and turn over but not start. I changed the fuel pump b/c I was sure that was the prob b/c my fuel pressure was alittle weak at the rail.I didn't need a pressure tester to know that barley a stream was comming out at the bleeder on the rail. So I changed the pump and now it turns over and will diesel for a few moments after I stop cranking but still no start!! I pulled 2 plugs and both the ones I pulled are getting spark...any ideas??? I was thinking an injector but even if one was bad the car should still halfway run. I'm really hopping I didn't jump timin or somthing...

How are you guys adjusting the pushrod on the brake booster? I can't really get anything to the rod to keep it from turning while trying to get a socket on the screw to back it out some.

It almost looks like you need a special tool that has a couple of 90* bends to stick in there so you have room to get to the screw.

I did get some pliers in there, but I couldn't keep the rod from turning when trying to turn the screw. I tried vice grips, but you don't have alot of room as you still have to have room to get a socket or something on the screw to turn it.

1985 C4 (110,000 easy miles) - Smog Pump makes rattling/vibration noise at idle, and when RPM's are dropping down to an idle. Seems fine while driving. When the A/C is on, it seems louder/worse at idle (or dropping to an idle). I thought it was an internal vibration in the Smog Pump, or bad bearings so I replaced it. Problem is, the new one is just as bad. Does anyone know what can be making this rattling/vibration noise in the Smog Pump.

OK, here's the deal. 1990 L98 133K miles

1st...I'm a licensed aircraft mechanic with about 20,000+ heavy maintenance hours on helicopters and fixed wing so I know my way around tools and stuff and I work on my car just like I would an aircraft, I have my tech manual open and I tag my parts...nuff said

I had a suspicion that the throttle body on my '90 L98 had never been cleaned and I was correct, it looked like it had bits of charcoal down its throat and when I removed it the backside looked like the darkside surface of the moon.

I cleaned the throttle body as described in "101 Projects for your Corvette 1984-1996" by using spray throttle body cleaner and a soft toothbrush and paintbrush...no scraping, scratching or anything like that. I also cleaned the ports on the plenum and they turned from dark brown/black to pretty aluminium.

I reinstalled with a new gasket of course (18 inlbs torque), hooked up the vacuum and water lines so on and so forth. Double and tripple checked connections.

The thing runs like a log wagon....Loping at idle and no power especially when trying to go into passing gear on the road...falls flat on its fanny...Oh yeah...fuel pressure 36-37 lbs at idle and open throttle.

Before I did this the thing would snap your neck going into passing gear and it was smooth at idle:hb

Hi,

My first vette and it started to run rough hesitate. I replaced the plugs and wires and wala vette runs great. I took it out today and ran it on the freeway going up 280 runs fine (about 10 miles) I pull off to make a run back, I was in sixth gear (six speed) about 70 MPH just like the run up and it started to ping. Nerver heard this before, put it into fith and the ping whent away. Any thoughts? I pulled the codes no code were present. The only time it pinged was on the way back from my run in sixth gear. Around town no pinging.:confused

I went to turn the key and i got a "click" and then nothing. Car went dead. No turn over, no radio, no windows, no nothing, etc.

I can hear faint clicking sounds (relay?) from under the passanger side dash area with key out. I also noticed with the key out, the oil presure and a few gauges moved slightly up. when insert the key in to try to start, everything went down to zero.

I let it sit for a few mins, went inside to get keys for my other car and tried again and got a little "hummm" sound something, but then nothing happened. back to previous paragraph.

I have been having trouble starting recently. it tends to miss on attempt to crank. i was guessing this is the fuel pump, but now car has nothing. Battery is 2yrs old in good shape. Manual 6spd.

Advise before get home and try to diagnos/fix.

Hi All,

Mi friend would like to install an 1991 bumper on his 1994 Corvette, because the original one has broken and cannot be repaired....

Does anyone know what is the difference between the 1991 and 1994 bumper support?

Does it require any special steps or parts to make the 1991's bumper fit perfectly on an 1994's support/mount?

Thanks in advance!

Apologies if this is in the wrong area...
The speakers on my 89 are hissing, and it's been getting worse. I replaced the rears, which seemed the worst, and it helped...for about a minute. Now they sound crappy too.
I've talked to two stereo guys, both said the replacements are hard to find, so far that's been true, no real luck with any of the catalogs, although I know I can have them rebuilt. One catalog had them listed, but says it would take 100 DAYS for shipping, kinda hints to me that they don't actually have them either!
One stereo shop quoted me $700 to replace them with basic aftermarket speakers and a (cheap) radio, and to rewire the car.
Any opinions on this? I want to keep a stock look, and I actually still have a lot of cassettes but almost no CDs, so I really don't want an "upgrade" . Online I've found some non-bose GM radios out of 3rd gen Camaro's at decent prices, would they physically fit? They'd at least look similar, and I just want it to work, I don't care about having the power to blow out an ear drum :L
:w

Hi All - after two long years I'm finally getting my 90 vette back together from bad head gaskets. Of course, I don't remember how most of this stuff goes back together. I took good pictures but I neglected to get good shots of the passenger side and the a/c brackets and bolts. I'm rebolting the pass side exhaust manifold back on and I have four regular bolts and two bolts that have an extra threading for nuts to receive bracket mounts for the a/c. I need to know where these two specialty bolts go - what sequence from front to back. Can someone help me? The chilton and haynes manuals I have don't really help with pics unfortunately.
