Exclamation 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray Start of Production Delayed

I received word earlier today from one of my sources that start of production for the 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray has been delayed.

I emailed GM earlier today inquiring about this and I'm still awaiting word. As soon as I hear anything I'll post back here.

    Default Pdc'n Delay

Taillight supplier run short on mascara? Maybe they need more power sauce from the Triumph Rocket III

I'm sure a quality item needs an update or something like that. They won't let this car out until it's perfect.

Looks like if you have a ring on your right hand, you can put a serious scratch on the gearshift handle. Seems like second gear indicator is about gone. The car only has 1302 miles on her.

If that's the case, kudos to GM for wanting the C7 to be perfect right out of the gate!

Define "delay". Is it truely a delay if no official start date was ever announced to begin with? Or just not starting when everyone assumed it would start? Remember, third quarter doesn't even begin until Monday, and all they ever commited to was "cars to be in showrooms by end of thrd quarter". Believe me, I'm as anxious for them to start as anyone ( I have a CGM 2LT Z51 ordered, now at 3300). But I'm willing to be a little patient for them to get it right. Just build mine in time for my club road trip to Tail of the Dragon in October!!!

Scuttlebutt I hear from here and there supports Rob's post from last Thursday.

From a manufacturing and engineering standpoint going from C7 from C6 is more like the traumatic change that C5 was from C4. It doesn't surprise me that trying to get the car to regular production is proving to be a significant challenge.

I would think stuff like VVT, AFM, eLSDs, programmable IPs, standard CF body panels and whatever sometimes are "easy" to make work on cars hand-built in Detroit on racks at the tech center but sometimes harder to make work when the cars are being mass produced at the assembly plant.

Hopefully, the powers-that-be will not "sign-off" on the car until it's truly ready.

If I had a car on order and was told there'd be a delay, I'd be happy to wait.

In the meantime......I'll just enjoy my "old" C6 Z06.

    Default Prodection delay

According to my contact with the Corvette Museum, there is no delay but there is no definite production or delivery schedules.

No delay and no announced schedule.

Your source at the Museum didn't offer any useful info.

I will be very surprised if General Motors truly has no planned point-in-time for start of regular production.

From a PR standpoint GM is wise not to announce the planned start-of-production. With a car which is as new as is C7 (think the change-over from C4 to C5) there are bound to be some problems and a wise management would have allowed some extra time to "work out the bugs".

Customer wants, marketing beliefs, performance goals set by engineering and government regulation have driven the addition of a lot of highly-technical systems on that car. Getting them all to work properly and in synergy in the real world may not be easy. My intel from some good sources but not confirmed by second sources tells me there might be some significant challenges the Corvette Team is working on very hard to meet. If that's true, it may take time to meet those challenges.

We're in the last week of July. I would guess that BG is going to have to start building cars for sale fairly soon if dealers are to begin deliveries at the traditional start of the model year.

I tend to put more faith in Rob's opening post than one by a screen name who's only posted one time to the CAC and quotes an unnamed source at the NCM. Also, that Rob has never retracted his statement and official GM remains silent on this issue speaks volumes.

Not being on the media A- or B-list, I'll not get an invite to the media preview for the car, but if invitations to the 2014 Corvette Stingray "long-lead" media event have gone out to A-listers, that's a good sign.

Was at a local Chevy dealer yesterday and one of the sales managers was telling everyone that they would have a new C7 on the showroom floor in 2 weeks. Given what I've been reading and hearing, I can't see that happening. Then again.....

GM could start production before the end of July and get C7s out to the dealers by the first week of August.

Surely there is a spy in the Bowling Green plant or nearby that has good information as to when production will start or if it has started.

Now, Tuna...how can you suggest that there are "spies" in the plant at B.G. Next thing, you'll be telling us there are black helicopters flying over your house at night on secret missions for the U.N.

The shift handle is getting bigger because they keep adding gears......soon the shift pattern will be on the sun visor like on a semi's......

The gentleman's name at the Museum is Shane Webb and can be reached at shane@corvettemuseum.org. With all due respect to Rob, he didn't name anybody at GM. The point of my comment was to add information to the tread. I thought that was the purpose of reponding irrespective of whether it's the first or 100th time you submit a comment.

You can contact Shane if you like, but when there was a delay of 4 months in the delivery of my 2007, the museum was the only that knew the blue paint was the issue. The dealer had no clue.
