Default Recall #10118 Service Active Handling System

Has anyone had this recall completed? Is it necessary if the steering column is seldom moved? Is it a job that could cause other problems if not done correctly? Thank you.

Would you explain in detail what is the problem for the recall and what is the suggested fix.

    Thanks

Are you talking about a C5 issue or C6 issue? You've posted your question in the C6 Forum but you list your Corvette as a "00 convertible".

A quick look at the Corvette Action Center Knowledgebase shows articles listed by 'category' namely generations although there are a few other 'general' headings.

We need more info in order to help you.

I am not having a problem. Thought perhaps someone had this recall performed and could explain it to me. Would like to know if they feel it is necessary.

    Here's what I've found:

The bulletin is listed in the CAC Knowledgebase here: Corvette Action Center Knowledgebase :: 2005 - 2006: Recall: Service Active Handling

A quick web search provided a write-up by an owner who had experienced the issue mentioned in the recall: he got an error message and felt the brakes (or a brake, he wasn't specific) grab. He stated that it had happened rarely but did occur more than once.

The "fix" apparently involves installing a clip to the Steering Wheel Position Sensor connector in the steering column to secure it and prevent movement of the terminals.

Any issue that could cause my Vette to swerve without warning would be important enough to at least have it checked, particularly since it is a recall item and free fix; but that's just me. Hopefully this will help you while you ponder the issue and wait for someone with firsthand experience to speak up.
