    Default oil change

How much is too much oil? I got a oil change yesterday and before I left I checked the dipstick and they overfilled it! They drained some out and assured me it was right on the money! I checked it today and its 5/16 to 3/8 over the full mark! Will it be alright or would you make them drain some out? Same thing happened to me last oil change but it was a different dealer! Man you think they could get it right !

    Hi there,

Anything over the full mark should be removed.

If you have to, bring in your owners manual to where it says you should never overfill the crankcase.

Don't show them the manual, they'll see where it says "keep the level at or near 1 quart (1L) above the upper mark that shows the proper operating range," for competitive driving. Can you just drive it that way until the next oil change?

It's always a good thing to remind someone how to do their job, like, "Doc, don't leave any sponges or clamps in there." One would think they are being paid to know how to do their job.

After I showed our local Corvette tech the ungreased zerks on my C6 he still had to look it up on the computer and then said, "Golly, you're right." I like this guy and his work but he's like a lot of people that are trying to make a living as easy as they can.

C6 has been to 20 states, 49K miles and counting... slowly, more fun driving the '64 and the '72.

You will be fine being just a little over if your way over you know quick because it starts to wash out the valves starts running rough and smokes. now you may allways be just a tad over if your car hold 5qts you are not able to drain the whole amount their is allways a little left in the heads and all those other nooks and crannies. i would rather be just a hair over then low.

The oil level belongs in the cross hatch area, plain and simple.
