Default New C5 Guy saying Hello, and a technical question

HI Folks, My name is Garry, I'm from Salem, Oregon. I just purchaced my very first Corvette. A 1999 White with Tan Leather C5 Roadster. I'm pretty impressed with the performance of the C5 and it's a blast to drive with the top down. I also am the proud owner of a 1969 triple black Chevelle SS, which a whole different animal and a blast to drive as well

    Now for my first question for the knowledgable here;

My C5 is a Canadian built car which means the Twilight Sentinel is stuck in the on position and I can't toggle it to off. This is anoying to have the headlights turn on every time I start the car in the garage and also to have them come on when I don't want them to. I have seen in other forums and been told that you can dissable this feature by getting into the dash and placing a resistor in the socket so the car thinks it's always daylight. It seems like there should be an easier way to do this, but I can't seem to find the answers. Could someone in the know please enlighten this new Corvette guy ?

    Thanks s: Garry

Hi Garry, welcome to the CAC and congratulations on your car.
From what I remember from other threads, it seems like there isn't a quick do-it-yourself way to fix the Canadian twilight sentinel problem- I'm not sure but seem to recall that you might be able to turn it off with a tool that a dealer might have- something called a Tech 2 scan tool.

Welcome. That was my first mod. I know it does not work for the recent vette, but it may work on your 99. I removed the BCMI 3 minifuse # 22 from the IPEC (instrument panel electrical center)located at the right of the BCM. Parking light are still controlled by the DRL. I need to turn the switch to have the head light to come up. Raising the hand brake by a click or 2 will also make it. Removing the fuse just is working fine 4 me.

Stock 1984 & 1997 A4 Z51 3.15. BestTime 13.36 on Michelin Pilot. Hawk HPs for braking. Corsa for the sound.

I drive a Vette or I stay home.

Thanks all, for the Welcome's !

Vette747, removing the mini fuse does not work on the 99 year, they must have changed what that mini fuse does because when I startrd the car after removing it, it ran really rough, like only on half of the cylinders.

Tammy, I will give a Chevy dealer a call and ask is they can re-program it.

If anyone else has any information, I would sure like to hear it before I attempt the risister in the dash scinario.

    Cheers, Garry

    GarryL,

    Welcome.

My 1999 C5 was ordered with the Twilight Sentinel option (US version). The owner's manual has an explanation on how to activate the option with a delay feature that can be adjusted.

Does your manual (Canadian) have this explanation? Perhaps you could adjust the delay feature to its highest level, which would eliminate the headlight doors opening immediately when the car is started in the garage.

Although I ordered this option, I did not like it and turned the feature off through the DIC controls.

    Good luck. Enjoy your C5.

    White Coupe,
Twilight Sentinel is required to be active all the time on Canadian cars. For our northern friends there is no way to deactivate TS through the DIC like there is for US cars.

I guess the Canadian government thinks people aren't capable of turning on their own lights.

Thanks for all the help !
