F45 shocks

Can these shocks be replaced with normal shocks, I know there are sensors/accuaters hooked up to them , Is it possoble to just install Bilsteins/Z06 shocks and tie up the sensors, will it mess up the computer at all

And if your asking why would I eliminate them, there $500 buks each, and Im sure a Bilstein or a Zo6 shock would perform just as good.

Any input from anyone with a 98 that has done this changeout, would be appreciated.

Hi there,
The mod of choice would be an F55 magnetic retrofit.
12499507 is the part number. and they are $1900 on the web for the 4 shocks and the control module.
If they are installed at a GM dealership, they may be a bit more, but carry a lifetime warranty.
You can use 04 ZO6 shocks, but you will have to reformat the RPO configuration for your car, which is not easy to do.

Can't help with non-standard replacement, but maybe with some alternate locations to find the F45 shocks -- have you tried: gmpartsdirect.com, or ecklers.com, or mad? Also, Bilstien has a rebuild program (at least for the FX3's from the C4's), albeit no warranty versus lifetime if bought aftermarket new, it was about $100/per for the FX3's. look around for threads on this here or the forum.

Albeit expensive, we replaced the FX3 shocks on our 94 with brand new ones from Ecklers for $180/per and found used actuators for only $100/per -- and the car rides great (even with GSC's), so it was worth it. Our 2000 also has the F45 like yours, and if and when, we'll just shop around but stay with them cause we like the ride (although it's only has 7k, so we have a long way to go, hopefully).
