My Corvette(s):
2003 50th Anniv. Convertible
Default Any cleaning tips for a shale top?

I have had my 2003 50th Anniv. for about 10 months now and it has been under the car cover for about 9 months and 24 days out of that time but I have still managed to get a few small dirty areas on the top. Are there any suggestions out there for cleaning the top without doing damage to the fabric. This is my first light coloured convertible top I have owned and I don't want to damage. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I use "RAGG TOPP" cleaner on mine. Works great. You can get it at the Corvette Store at the NCM (www.corvettemuseum.com).

A detailer gave me a great tip for my black top - to remove lint and other stuff, use masking tape. After you wash it and it's dry, Just make a decent size 'pad' with masking tape, put it on and peel it off section by section. Takes me 2 or 3 'pads' and 5 minutes to do my whole top. You could use a lint brush on it too.

Another good tip, I'll try it. However, with the shale top I don't find the lint as bad as you probably do on the black top, even with the new 100% cotton cloths for polishing.

I use a sponge when cleaning the roof. It's supposed to be easier on the material - keeps from fuzzing or fraying the cloth. So far, so good.

I saw that one coming, I was surprised it took so long for someone to rip me about that! In fact we almost purchased the Lemans Z06 last month but better judgment prevailed and we are going to wait for the C6 Z06 next year and we will drive that one. We have 1828 kms on the '03 and we have been on 2 road trips already, so we drive it a little bit!
