Before I contact NCM, does anyone know where the original buildsheet might be "hidden" in my 2004 coupe?

Bill,

I keep hearing a lot of talk about build sheets. What exactly is a build sheet anyway? If it's hidden somwhere in the car, I'd like to find iit too.

A build sheet is a document that travels with the car on the assembly line. It lists the color, equipment, id's and dates of various processes along its way. It basically tells the builders what is optioned for that particular car. It generally stays on the car as the body and sub-assemblies are put together. The National Corvette Museum sells them for $40 to non-members, $30, I believe, for members. I bought mine from the NCM. It is an exact copy and is a nice addition to have with your car's other documentation. I'm afraid I do not know where they may be found on the C5.

During a plant tour back in Sept. 2001, I asked the guide if they still place a copy of the "Build Sheet" somewhere on the car... they said .... they place it up in the front bumper assy...

Thanks Z OH 6, I thought it was something like that. Since I bought my Vette new from the dealer, I have every piece of paper including all window stickers that came with the car. A build sheet woukd definitely be a must have for my collection.

Bud, I'll snoop around the front bumper assembly and see what I can find. After that, it's NCM.

The "Build Sheet" is placed inside of the passenger side front frame rail at the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, KY.

In order to retreive the document the front bumper cover must be removed.
May also have to remove the actual bumper under below the cover to access the opening in the frame rail.

The NCM reproduction build sheets are not always accurate as far as the date of assembly. The NCM build sheet I have lists the build as March2,
a member with access to GM dealer computer lists the build date as March 15.

The NCM's reproduction window stickers are not printed on the original forms as the original window sticker. As so do not take into account increased shipping costs during the mid year model change in January or later.

Look in the cavity as shown in the attached picture....lower right hand corner.

You'll have to pull the cover and the impact foam to get to it.

Does anyone know how much time it takes to get the front apart to get to the build-sheet? Also how tough is it to get everything back together and lined up?
I got one from NCM for my '98 but would like to see the original I just don't know if it's worth all the work.

I think it would take you awhile to get all that front fascia and everything else off, the body shop did mine unfortunately and they put about 3 hours into it but they do this more often than you or I......

One word of caution.....I pulled mine out, unrolled it, smoothed it out with my hand and everything on it jumped off the paper. It's not printed in a normal fashion! It's like all the letters/numbers turned into little black flakes and disappeared, and mine was only 5 months old. If you go for it, be very careful with it and do not do any unnecessary bending of the paper.

Starting to sound like the NCM is the better deal
