    Default Mag Red Owners Only

Well this isn't for Mag Red owners ONLY, but if you own a Mag Red Vette, I am interested to hear what you think about the color after now having it for a while. I am thinking of Mag Red for my Vette purchase and was wondering what you all thought about it as owners. Is it easy to clean, tough to clean, look sharp and turn heads, or does it mainly look dull or maroon all the time? Does it attract cops or trouble?? Do Mag red Vettes actually go faster?

Just looking for your thoughts! Thanks.

I love the color when it's clean and in certain lighting. There are times, like you said that it looks more of a solid color rather than a metallic. As far as paying more for that color, which I did, I don't think in the long run it was worth it, but when it's waxed up I get plenty of compliments. The early Mag Red color was different. Mine is the Mag Red 2. I'm not really sure what the difference is. Maybe someone here can shed some light on that.

Not bad to take care of , easier than black . Looks great all of the time . Cops do not care . Other mag red owners cling to you and want to talk . Keep wax , polish an I just tried clay , its an arm breaker . Thats the best way to keep spider webs an swirl marks off the clear coat . Mine is still factory flawless .
    Thanks ,

    love it.

dark so it does show minor marks if your not careful but the looks when it is clean are awesome. shows a lot of depth and the "particles" just float in the paint.

as you probably know mag red and mil yellow are extra cost colors and IMO opinion well worth it... of course i bought mag red but more because i have had all the other colors other than yellow in past camaro ss's and this one just stands out more to me.
not the same car but i switch about every 9-14 months anyhow so need a different look. haven't had black since 99 and it is awesome but the marks that it shows to me i can't live with.

that said the c5's look good in any color to me
as a matter of fact i will go in garage rite now and find something to do with car (try out new cobra glass cleaning mf towels) as weather up here will not allow me to drive it

Default Take a look at as many colors as you can!

I have to say, my millenium yellow is a head turner here in Italy. It was in Germany too. I think that if it was some other color it would not turn so many heads. So far, the Carabinieri (Italian Federal Police) have left me alone too. They set up checkpoints and pull random cars over to check and make sure the paperwork is on order and things like that. Kind of like a speed trap in the US!

It is the color that first drew me to the C5 and it still looks great to me. When the car is clean it's beautiful. Easier to take care of than black but shows dirt like any dark color. Most people love it and just think of it as Candy Apple Red. With polished or chrome wheels and body color brakes and center hubs it's a knock out. A neighbor with a black vert had his wife send him over to look at my car. She drives a silver Porsche C4S. It gets noticed. (follow link in SIG to see newer pic of brakes/hub)

The clear coat isn't, there's pigment in there, so no abrasive cleaners or dry towels.
Makes it a little fussier than the other colors.

Randy, I saw your coupe on base yesterday and it was DIRTY! What's up with that! Yellow looks tough to keep clean.

Well, I cleaned the inside on Saturday. It rained on Sunday. I also took a bit of a drive in the rain. Oh well, it does have 2 coats of wax!

I don't think it is harder to clean than any other color. If the dirt is just dust it gets uniformly dirtier and is less noticable. However, when the dirt is in liquid form....you saw it.

And I'm going to leave it parked at work for nearly 2 weeks...outside! Ouch!

My Anniversary Red is similar - they both turn heads, especially in the sun or under bright lights. As already mentioned, they are dark and will show swirl marks and other problems easier than lighters colors. I use a clay bar on mine regularly to minimize the crud build up and I use Liquid Glass to finish it. Mag Red is a good choice but if I was ordering a new C6, I'd have to go with the Sunset Orange.

IMHO Its the best color ever on a vette. Mine is almost five years old and I love it as much as the first day I first saw it. Would buy another in a heartbeat.

I love the color. Every time I drive it, which isn't much, I get plenty of headturns and compliments. I really hate that I have it for sale but I just don't have the time to enjoy it. If anyone is interested here is the link, but whichever Mag red Vette you buy you won't be disappointed in the color.

    Buster,

Mine is Quicksilver but I've always liked both Mag Red and Mag Red II. It's a rich color, just the right amount of metallic in the base and when it's in the sun - well that color just pops. Oh yeah - about it being faster than other colors? I understand that they mix a little Kryptonite in at the factory which makes it just a little faster. But not as fast as "Quick"silver.

My sister-in-law has had three Mag Red Vettes … she only drives them 3-4 years, then gets a new one (and now she has a new C-6). I would hate her, but she is too nice (and pretty). They don’t show dirt much, so it’s good for her since she is a little “messy”. I have had only one Vette (1998 Vert) and it’s Torch Red with black interior. I wouldn’t trade it for anything (well, maybe a C-6). It’s in-your-face-red and will turn heads! And I haven’t had any problems with cops (except for that damn front license plate, but that is another story).

    2001 Magnetic Red II Ragtop

    Default

Need to add my 2 cents worth. Just got my 01 mag red II vert. LOVE IT! She turns heads everywhere we go. My wife is not normally fond of red cars, but when she saw it in the dealer, she loved it. Hell, that was enough for me! I was actually looking at a blue 02 coupe. But a red ragtop has always been my childhood dream machine. I couldn't sign the papers fast enough! AAhhh, open air motoring in Southern California. Life is good!

Just bought my first Vette a month ago - a Mag Red C6 - the color is simply awesome. It's very deep, and in the sunlight the metallic specks just pop out at you. I've not had any trouble keeping it clean - my "cold weather" ride is black, and the black, especially with a clear coat and a good coat of wax, is great to look at, but it's a bear to keep clean. I understand why GM named their color "magnetic red" - everytime I stop somewhere, it draws people like a magnet - part of it's the Vette design, and part of it's the Red, but the comments are universally positive. Go for it!

I read somewhere that GM will no longer produce the magnetic red for the 2005 year.
