    Default 2000 Coupe Curb Weight

Today I decided to take our 2000 Coupe to a state certified weigh scale to get an accurate curb weight. I filled the tank, drove 1/2 mile to the scale, exited the car, had it weighed, and was given a weigh slip which read 2,770 lbs. I even asked the operator if the weight was correct and he not only rechecked the weight, but actually walked outside and looked to make certain I was centered on the scale and had all four tires on it.

Having read a number of weights listed not only on this site's specifications page but on other site, all seem to be close to 3246 lbs.

Has anyone else found their weight to be a few hundred pounds less than advertised? Any idea why the difference?

    Default one more time

I have weighed my 2004 coupe and it is 3200 lbs. Mine is a lemans commemorative with lots of extras but not 400 pounds! Try another scale, that one is obviously wrong. You would know if you or someone else had taken 400 pounds out of your car. (hard to do)

Yes, it has me wondering what went wrong. I'm looking at a 476 pound difference. The only thing that is different from stock is the Corsa exhaust (touring), and I took the runcraps off and she sports NITTO NT555's. That would make each tire weigh about 119 pounds less than the stock runcraps. I find that hard to believe. I'm gonna try another scale.

I'd say the "certified" scale maybe not so certified.

There's no way a 2000 coupe could weigh 2770 pounds (480-lbs less than normal) unless, maybe...you took the engine out.

Go find another scale...like a CAT scale at a truck stop.

    Default My question gets answered.

This morning I phoned our local stone quarry and asked if they could weigh my car. Yes, for $5 was the answer. So, I drove over and drove on the scale. It weighed in at 3300 lbs. After going inside the girl explained that it rounds off in 20 pound increments so it might have been closer to 3281 lbs.

I decided to return to the 1st business and ask for a reweigh. The man behind the counter immediately recognized me and before I had my story out said, Your weight was wrong, we found out yesterday it's weighing light. He said they stopped all weighing and are waiting for the repairman. He apologized, took my name and number and will call me as soon as the repairs are made and the state inspector gives the approval.

Thanks all for your responses and assistance.

I agree with Hib. Go to a truckstop and weigh in on one of their scales. Truckstop scales are certified yearly and have a minute margin for error, and I mean minute! A scale ticket from the truckstop is gonna run $9-11 (I think is what they are up to now)

CAT scales are the more popular, but they are all caliberated the same. Good luck!
