Default What's The Deal With Red Calipers?

Has red become the boring standard for brake calipers?

I can be boring with just about any caliper color. I'm currently boring with silver.

Default How About Something Like This

Let's say you have a yellow Corvette, Now try to imagine
these calipers on it. It would look very sweet because it
it matched the body paint and best of all....it wouldn't
    like everybody else.

Those aren't calipers, they are caliper covers. Have you actually seen them on a real vehicle? No matter the color, they are not a pretty sight.

I must be out of touch with brake caliper fashion as all mine are silver or gray.

Do those caliper covers get in the way of cooling or do they help? If they impede the cooling of the brakes, I wouldn't use them.

They would impede the cooling of the calipers.

Unless your racing the vehicle I doubt that you would ever notice the heat extraction difference.

True enough....It was used only as a visual aid. Being the master tech that you are, I'm sure you've seen calipers painted in colors other than red. In fact most C5's left the factory with silver calipers.

Yep, seen many of them. I think painted calipers look good, the caliper covers not so much to my eye as they kind of remind me of fender skirts on '50's and 60's vehicles. Just my opinion though, no right or wrong way to do it.
