My Corvette(s):
Default How do you adjust the Shifter Park release

I recently bought my 1995 Corvette Convertible and am very capable of self repairs. However until the shop manual arrives I would like to know how to adjust the shifter button release for "Park" when the brake is applied. I have had this car for a month now and have noticed that somewhat progressively in the past week that even though the brake was depressed, it's getting more difficult to get the shifter button to go down and allow the shifter to travel.

While replacing the console cover I lubed the stick mechanism inside and out. The rod under the button was sticky. WD40 down in there and it really is better. The little detents that the shifter goes through needs some grease too. I believe the brake lock out deal is unrelated to the stiff button you have. Just a suggestion. You can pry off the button with 2 little screwdrivers and try that first without removing the console. The knob comes off with a snap ring down in there.

BTW welome to the CAC. You will get all the help you need for just about any situation. You'll love your '95.

Thanks for the info tlong, it was very useful! I pulled the shift plate cover (I actually do have snap ring pliers) lubed all the pieces of the mechanism including the detent. After several attempts to work in the lithium grease I noticed a sticky clicking sound in the steering column. I grabbed my penlight flashlight and shined it through the space between the tilt and the column collar and while operating the shifter, lo and behold, I could see the other end of the cable from the shifter traveling back and forth. The spray lithium grease tube fit between into that space and came within an inch of the cable mechanism so I shot it a couple of times, worked it in with the shifter a few dozen times and viola...Problem Solved..

Default Great job!

You just put yourself ahead $350.00. A 10 year old car is going to have some arthritis here and there. Console work is a bit involved, but if you remember to put the light back in the shift indicator...success!

Wait till the Helms Manual gets there...if it gives you chills like a kid at Christmas you have it bad. Glad I could help even a little. I'm learning through experience. The CAC runneth over with it. Keep us posted on your new baby.
