    Default little problems........

Ok when I went to go get the car at the shop the owner said that when the fired it up the lifter or lifters, were making noise just like last time. So I am thinking great. I put about 90 miles on the car last night put it in the garage for the night, went out to start it for work and the lifters made noise and my SES light came on. I drove it 4 miles to work, it ran great. Got back in it six hours later started it, lifters made noise, but NO SES light. Came home ran the codes and I got two 32 EGR, and 42 Electronic spark timing (the shop said they set the timing at 8 degrees advanced). Any suggestions should I not worry about it if the light does not come back on? Thanks

The timing code is related to the EGR code I'll bet. However, I don't have an answer for you Justin. Someone will see this before long and have a comment as well as a possible solution for you.

Yea that is what I figured since I drew both codes at once, but for some reason when the light comes on it runs great no hesitation or rough idle

I've experienced an EGR code once in my truck, but the valve must have just hung up on a piece of carbon or something then cleared itself, because I cleared the code and it never did return. The truck ran fine even when the check engine light was lit, so it probably reseated itself right away.

The code will remain until cleared though, and the timing code may clear at the same time.

I know the code will remain until I take the negative terminal off the battery, but it must be intermitent or else wouldn't the light be on all the time? And so far the car has only threw the light when it has sat over night.

You're right, the light would remain until cleared by either disconnecting the battery or utilizing a scan tool. I'm at a loss, sorry man.

It is alright. I let the shop that put the motor in the car know of my problems and they want me to bring it in asap. So it's off to them Monday, I just wanted to see if anyone has ever had a similar problem.

My car (doesn't yours?) has a disconnect built in, orange wire, I believe, that allows only the ECM to have power removed. Ten seconds or more should do it.

As of right now I have 210 miles on it. I haven't really been able to put my foot in it, but it runs great no hesitating or nothing.

I am not sure I will have to check. I have always just taken the negative terminal off the battery for about a minute, the put it back on. .

    Justin,

You recently had your motor rebuilt, right? What kind of lifters did they use? Flat or roller?

Roller, the weird thing is that this happened before, I took it to them they said they couldnt hear it, which made me a little uneasy. Then they said the adjusted everything. So I went out and started it at there parking lot at there shop and the lifters made noise. Now that they have rebuilt it AGAIN with all new parts, you would think that they lifters wouldn't make noise right? Well I guess not.

    Justin,

Do you think it's a possible that the noise could be the injectors? With all those moving parts and noise; it could potentially be difficult to locate exactly where a noise is coming from.

I initially was hoping for that, but when I first picked up the car after the shop ran the break in oil the owner said that he heard them when he first fired them up. Now the hit when you first fire it up then fade weaker and weaker and about 5 seconds later you cant hear them. So now I am kind of at a loss. I will see if the SES light comes on tomorrow morning. Then its off to both shops.
