    Default LT1 on an L98

Guys I've read about an LT1 intake conversion for the L98 engines..

I do have a few questions though... I'm new so please bear with me...

    1. what years, exactly, are classified as having L98 engines?

    2. Is an LT1 intake manifold cast iron, or aluminum?

    Thanks!
    Mark

L98 started in '85...not sure when it stopped. LT1 intake is aluminum.

    LT-1 started in 92 so 85 - 91 was the L-98 era.

    No idea on question 2.

The L-98 debuted with the 1985 model year and continued until the introduction of the LT1 in 1992.

The manifold is cast from aluminum.

    I thought '84 was L83 and '85 was the first L98?

My error; call it lapse of memory or something, but the very same day I replied to another post with the correct code - go figure.

You're right, '85 was the introduction of the L-98.

    Default Cheap Performance ?

I recently bought a 1986 Vette and have seen these items in the Ecklers Parts & Acces. Web Site. My Vette is all Stock but wold like to increase a little HP.
Induction Power Coupler, ($50) & TPI Intake Air Foil, ($30). Are any of these worth the Cost ? They say it won't fit a ZR1. How can I tell ? By yhe way, how would one know if they had a LT1 or L98 ?
    Thanks,
    JD

Don't know about the IPC, forget the air foil. Do the free mods (try a search). The next cheapestmod that will give you a little is RR's. Then free flow exhaust, LT headers and raer gear change.

Good luck, Welcome, and feel free to ask alll the questions you need to

Another free mod you can do is pull the plenum off the car and port it out with a dremel or a drill, but I would not even think about doing this on the car. There are to many shavings to clean out to leave it on the car. Then after you pull it off to port it you can put a adjustable fuel pressure regulator on.
