My Corvette(s): 1969 Killer Shark | Calling all 85-86 Owners..PLEASE!!!!!
Could you guys do me a HUGE favor...and post numerous pics of your engines for me???
If you can't post them all here, email them to chrisnikki@juno.com
I am still hunting down the 85 GM manual from the guy I got the car from...and the harness/vacuum, etc...is a rat's nest on this machine!!!!!!!!!!
Remember, I bought the car back with the engine in the bed of my truck!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I gotta wrap up a big majority of it tonight and in the morning, so this would be GREATTTTTTTTTT Help!
Chris
--I mostly need to see the EGR electronic routing, vacuum lines from the engine to the EVAP canister, AIR pump valve connections, and general engine pics.

Chris, I put a bunch of pix up for you at http://alumni.umbc.edu/~rrubel1/pix/engine
Let me know if you can't get at them, or need some more specific shots. I should be home most of the day today.
BTW - as of 10 am eastern, they're still being uploaded, so if it's before 10:15 or so thye may not all be there.

I just saved them to my drive...THANKS!!!!!!!!!
BTW..could you snap a pic of the egr solenoid? It should have two wires going into it. I need to know what they look like (color) - what the plug looks like, and where to mount the solenoid (although my car has no EGR anymore, I still have to hook that up to keep the light from coming on.)

Ok, it's in the same place. Ends in x602.jpg. Unfortunately, my wires are very dirty and the color is hard to make out. It looks like white on the left and grey/red on the right. My shop manual looks to say that it's grey and pink/black. Grey comes from A4 on the ECM (EGR control) and pnk/blk to the ignition via bulkhead connector 2G. The EGR temp switch has a dark green wire going to ECM C15. Want I should scan some of these pages for you?
edit: sorry, forgot to say where the solenoid is. It's sitting right behind and slightly to the passenger side of the thermostat housing, at the very end of the driver's side fuel rail.

Nicely done... need you to come out and work on mine! What did you use on the black plastics to get them looking so clean?

Alot of elbow grease, plus a CD-2 engine detailing kit - consists of engine degreaser and finishing spray.
As well as alot of rags brushes, etc.
I'm really happy with how amazing it looks now. I have had several offers since I did it, but she's not for sale.
Thanks
Mart
BTW. rrubel, we were in another topic the other night regarding timing, any Idea where your timing marks are?

I almost forgot to ask another question, what are you using for the wire loom, the plastic parts of mine are gone and I am looking for new stock ones.

Wire looms for the plug wires? Bought some from TPIS when I got their plug wires, but any parts place will have them. I don't think you can get honest original GM ones any longer, but these look identical (and are made of more heat-resistant materials than were available 17 years ago).
Timing marks? <scratches head> Trying to remember the thread. Did you post an ascii-art picture of your timing marks, wondering which way things should go? As to where mine are, you're referring to what my timing is set at? About 7 degrees before top-dead-center (yes, I know it should be 6, but I run 93 instead of the suggested 87 octane), which I took to be 3.5 valleys towards the passenger side from the large notch in the timing guide.

Yeah that was me, it was a really lame pic, oh well.
That sounds about the same as mine. I was reading article in CF or Vette that talked about setting the timing at 2 degrees btdc.
Mart
BTW when I was looking to buy my vette the colour I wanted was RED or yellow, Nice car.

Thanks. My wife actually found the car for me; one of her co-workers was selling it. My avatar pic was taken by her while we were in the "Corvette-only Parking" in front of the factory in BG. I had three requirements for the car... red, coupe, and stick shift. Oh, and cheap.
White's nice, but so hard to keep clean (my last car was white).

Okay...here is what I need to know.
Does the harness (two wire) that goes to the EGR solenoid (the one tucked under the plenum area next to the t-stat housing)...come from the main wire harness that feeds the driver side fuel rails, or does it cross over from the harness feeding the passenger rails?
Or...does it tag over from the harness that runs down the driver inner fender well to feed the alternator and drive side water temp wire?????

Looks like it comes from the driver's side fuel rail harness. I pulled the front of the cover off the set of wires that runs down the top of the DS valve cover (and where the fuel injector wires come from) and could see it for a couple inches in there before it got buried in the other wires.
You know, there are a *LOT* of wires under the hood of this beast... I'm amazed that you've been able to find homes for all but these few.
