Default Replaced relay - runs - but.........

Hello again! I just went to the dealer to purchase a new fuel pump relay and pigtail.

The first problem I encountered is that the pigtail I bought has ALL WHITE WIRES - AND, the normal double wire that comes out on the right (supposed to be two large red wires) is now shifted to the second position on the new pigtail with two small wires.

I didn't trust this and asked for a diagram which a fellow member posted so kindly. However, after thinking about it I just went ahead and kept the wires in-line with the old system and simply spliced the two red wires into the one and then the normal black and white wire (that has two on the new pigtail) I simply capped the extra one off.

Wired it all up - it runs fine HOWEVER, my miles per gallon gauge AND my miles until I run out gauge are now at zero. If I hold down the miles per gallon reset it comes up but when I release it, it goes back to zero. Again, I don't have detailed enough wiring diagrams to see how (inside the ECM) this circuit is completed.

So - although the car runs, did I still connect the wires wrong? Any suggetions on how I remedy this?? Thanks a million folks!!

Did it work before you changed the relay? (the fuel run out and MPG gadge) What I am thinking (this happened to me) The back of the information center where the buttons are, that control the gadge, is a thin plastic board with strips of copper buses. When they get older the copper strips can come off the plastic and may touch another copper strip and short out. I finally had to buy a used information center and change the board.

Oh yea, everything worked fine before. BUT I just moved the car out of the garage and it started to work a little - perhaps since I had the battery disconnected I need to drive the car to get that to reset. Will try that and let you know!!
