93 road test results
For those following my saga,
I finally broke 500 miles last night, so I made a special trip after dinner to wring the engine out and see what it would do.
All I can say is--I can't find where the hp peak is--it just keeps pulling, until I'm well over the 6000 rpm tach. I think I hit the rev limiter once, supposed to be set at 6300 rpm to save the bottom end of the engine in case of autocross.
With the heat and humidity here, it's hard to tell if there is really more pull--but I am not good at that seat-of-the pants stuff anyway. For sure, it's a machine up high.
Off the line seems ok, still spin the GSC tires.
Sound: especially down low, there is more high frequency, whiny content to the engine's sound. Up high it is a similar roar.
Idle: good, but it really doesn't tolerate low speed travel in 1st and 6th anymore. In 1st, better keep it above 9mph and foot on the gas, no crawl at 6-7 mph capability. In 6th, forget it until 60 mph with your foot on it. So I have to use 5th from 35-60 mph.

It is nice to hear the car has some good performance.... when will you hit the 1/4 mile? I am really interested in hearing what speed it runs through the traps

Andy - bring it down this weekend and we'll hook the GTech up to it.
Got the old roller rockers?

Gone but not forgotten
Andy,
i'm sure once you get it to the track that'll tell the tale
good luck!

Yeah, I will probably go up to Englishtown on Saturday to do the 1/4 mile, and maybe the humidity will be less.
I really want a corvette vs corvette shootout, because with the humidity, a time / trap speed isn't as meaningful. I saw a 95 ZR1 a few weeks ago do 12.9 bests, and I know that car is faster than that. The LT4 was only running 13.1 best.
Rich/Mic, are you going to Capital? If the weather is good, I will try that instead of Englishtown.

If I get my exhaust on tomorrow and the weather is decent, I'll probably go to Capitol. Otherwise I'll use the GTech over the weekend. I'm still trying to get the house back together after we got hit by lightning last weekend; not sure how much car time I'll have for a while.

I forgot that Gina and I have a dinner date Friday. So, I'll have to wait or go to Englishtown.
FYI, there are some nice autocrosses every month given by the ches. Porsche club:

Mic,
I went to Cecil last Wed. and will gain tomorrow, weather permitting. Sorry to hear about your rubber--switching the GSC's
left to right is ok, I checked once with Goodyear. You won't lose much dry traction. I'd watch out in the wet though.
It seems computer technology is not the field to be in right now. How about real estate agent or stock broker? They make a ton and have little accountability if something goes wrong.

Sothpaw, how far away is the Cecil Co. strip, and what time does it run?

Gone but not forgotten
BTW Andy,
i start at Mercedes of Annapolis shuttling cars around. i'm sure it's not much money but atleast it'll get me some play money and pay for my tests
-
Rich,
The track is exit 100 from I-95 and is about 30 min. north of my house, so it is no longer of a round trip than capital.
Vettelt193,
Sad to see your LT4 for sale.
It didn't run like I wanted to -- about 13.3 @ 108 mph best, which is exactly as before. Although, more consistent now, my worst time was 13.55 and average was probably 13.4.
I need to run again and make sure I am letting it wind out to 6000 rpm in 1st and 2nd, as I didn't when I was on the road side. Also, there is the weather difference. And, it is very hard to get a good launch, and that launch affects more than the 60 foot time.
Still, I was hoping for 60 flywheel hp out of this, so what is that, .6 or .7s in the 1/4? Seems like a big difference.

I am sure you will dip into the 12's with ease, once the car is fully broken in and you get better at driving with the new setup.
