Default Auto Trans. Shift Problem - Really Wierd

I was out cruising on Sat., stopped for lunch, and after leaving the car would not shift out of 1st gear. My 1st thought was the trans. was gone. I drove about 7-8 miles home all the way in 1st gear with my hazards on at 15 mph. When I got almost home, I came to the top of a hill and was able to coast in neutral down the hill. When I got to the bottom of the hill, I came to a stop & shifted back into D3. From that time on, the car started shifting again into all gears. I heard & felt hard "clunk" as it downshifted into 1st at the next few stop lights. Then miraculously the car was shifting normal again. It even seemed to shift better than before. I drove the car again on Sunday & it shifted perfect. I can't imagine what the problem could have been.

I just recently did some mods so I don't know if any of those could have triggered this to happen. The mods are 3.54 rear gears, performance chip burned by Jeff from CAC, and perf. mufflers.

    Any advice/input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dave

This almost sounds like some debris in the valve body or govenor, when was the last time the trans was serviced?

Get the transmission serviced, tell them to flush it.

If the problems return, it may be time for a rebuild.

    Before you do all that....

Take it to a tranny place, preferably one you can trust, and tell him the throttle valve is sticking on you.
What he should do is remove the pan, remove the valve body, then remove the throttle valve and replace the spring at the end of it.

Drew of Netgearheads has replaced the one in mine and now it works perfectly again with 150,000 miles and still going strong.
