    Default Looking for opinions...

    Ok, heres the situation...

My parents are moving, and are considering "giving" me the Corvette. We've owned the car since 1991 (1991 FX3 Steel Blue Metallic, A4) and its the car that pretty much started my craze into Corvettes, and high performance.

As much as i really do consider it a blessing that my dads going to "give" me his car, ive got an opportunity go obtain a 98 SS ( 6 speed, cloth interior, hard top) aswell.

I know "hey, its still a vette, even if it is an L98" and NO im not trying to sound like a self-centered jackass about it and telling my dad "hey, your car is great, but how about this....", im just looking for different opinions here. He has considered selling the car before, but i've always stopped him. Now, the vette has a bunch of sentimal value to me, but the SS has a much more responsive motor, imo. What do you think? My plans for either would be heads, cam, exhaust, long tubes, gears and some apperance stuff. Trade in value on the vette is about even w/ what this SS is going for as far as wholesale, im just curious as to think some of your opinions on this...

Keep the vette, and mod it, or sell it for the SS?

As a Vette and F body owner both, I will say that there is no comparo between the two. true the vette is "just an L98" but it will always be a Vette. L98's are TORQUE monsters!!! If you don't think the power level is right, cam and heads will sure wake the car up as will a Supercharger, etc.
Steel blue is a rare and seemingly desireable color these days...
    Good luck w/ your decision

Keep the Vette!!!!!!...So what if the power is not as great as the SS...At least you will look better in the Vette :t ...With all honesty, I think you would be so much more happy with a Vette ...Thats my 2 cents worth...Peace out.

I ageee with most... an F-body for a vette... no way. The vette will always have a better value and that will increase as the years go by.

Plus, this vette is a vehicle you know... why trade it for the unkown. You know the vette's maintenance, history, and certainly the last owner... time to get off of here and get out there driving the nice gift you have...

Be proud... your a "vette" owner ... everyone recongizes that that word... now tell them you are an "F-body" (whichever model) owner... and your sure to hear many say..."who makes that"... "what is that"... "I don't think there is an American alive that does not know what the word "Corvette" represents.

    Good Luck!

I would have to say.....KEEP THE VETTE!!! Especially if your Dad is giving it to you. I love that Steel Blue color too. There are so many modifications for the L98 motor that you could easily have a very high horsepower Corvette without having to spend the extra money on an LS1 car. Plus...nothing is as fun as hanging out with other Corvette guys

The Vette will be much better in the long run... that plus the family history == Corvette.

What does "give" mean? is he going to give you the car, or just give you a really good deal on it?

Go for the Vette! Nothing like raising the clamshell hood and being able to see just about everything in the engine compartment. The L98 is a good looking engine too, not to mention the torque they put out down low.

The Steel Blue is a great color that you do not come across often, and to know its history is icing on he cake.

What ever your decision, good luck and enjoy your new ride!

P.S. Get the Vette, the Vette, the Vette

Never look a gift horse... Besides, think of taking the old boy out for a spin years down the road and proving how well you took care of it. Maybe pass it on to your son like the octogon barreeled 30-30 that has been in my family for 3 generations...
