My Corvette(s):
1992 Bright Red Coupe
Default 91 Roadster

I am looking to buy my first vette. The one that I found that I like is a 91 6 speed with 39k miles. It has a brand new top. The car looks sweet and drives very nice. It has a bose cd and fx 3 suspension package. There are no rips or tears in the interior, only some minor chaffing of the leather on one of the wings on the drivers seat from getting in and out. The only other problems that I can find are the front tires and back tires are different (rears are Goodyear Eagle GSCs and the fronts are a different Goodyear tire) and the radio emits a high pitched interference type noise when turned on after driving a while (this happens both when a cd or cassette are being played also). What is a fair price to pay for a car such as this? Any and all help is appreciated.
Jeff

I bought a 91 roadster last May at a Mecum auction. The Spring Muscle Car Auction in the Rockford area. It had 34k miles. White with a flame red interior. It also had the wear marks on the one bolster on the drivers seat. I paid less than 20k for it. I put new tires, battery and alternator on it. That is all so far. It now has 36k miles, of course it sat inside all winter.
I went to the Mecum sale last weekend in St Charles. There was a 96 roadster white w/black top and black interior that went thru the auction. It was like new 3,800 miles. It brought a 26k bid but the reserve was 28k and it didn't sell.
If your not in a big hurry Bloomington Gold is in St Charles in June. There will be hundreds of vettes for sale and also an auction.
I hope this might help.

I am not up on current prices, but I paid 14K for my 1991 in 1999 with 40K miles on it in real nice shape. I got mine from a private seller, you will usually get better prices from a private seller. From what I have been seeing you could probably get a newer one for that price range. You can check out the online car sites to get an idea of what years are going for what prices. Also you can check the classified adds of the the major web browsers like yahoo and lycos. There is a lot of info online and you need to do research to make sure you are getting a fair deal. It is also a good idea to take someone with you that is familar with Vettes (unless you are) to take a look before you buy one.
Good luck.

I would think 11 or 12k would bring the car home. W/ mismatched tires, more "short cuts " may have been taken...
High pitch w/ radio - Bose amps blown. My quote for repairs was about a grand on mine from a vendor.
6 speed is a plus for many but not all - is the car exactly what you want?? If not, pass - thousands for sale every week
Good luck.

I have a 91 vert and am planning to up grade. Its a nice looking and running vette with 71k. On a private sale I'd start at 12k and let it go for 10500-11000k.

I bought a 91 convertible 6 spd last Sept. with 46k and paid thousands less then 20k.The car was mint from the tires up.I looked for about 4 months until I found the car I wanted .
Pay to have it checked if you have to.Not everyone will agree but I believe the price can depend on what state you live.Check on line prices and you will see for yourself. The L98 is a nice dependable engine if it has been maintained.And you will love the convertible.And this is a great site to get any questions answered. Good luck.
