Default C4 1990 dash double din stereo

Hi guys I went to fit a aftermarket double din stereo in the vette today and found that the opening in the dash is too small.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem or does anyone know of a head unit that fits without too much modification to the dash panel or a modified dash panel I could possibly buy as I don't fancy hacking away at the original to make it fit. Thanks in advance. Steve.

Short answer: not double, but 1.5 DIN.

Adaptations behind (electronics) are already well discussed.

I much prefer my total replacement of all things Blose, as currently installed, after doing the minor change thing for some years, with fair result.

While more was altered after this was taken, the head unit remains.
