Default Any recommendations on upgrades to an old 89 HEI distributor ?

I'm doing a little freshening up tune-up wise on my 89 and I was wondering if there is anything inside the 22 year old distributor I should do or look at ? It's a cruiser and never raced. Thank you !

Maybe before turning a wrench, get it plugged into a scanner, and check operating parameters (get a printout, and post up here) - fuel trim, injector pulsewidth (time), and especially O2 readings, to check for a good burn...
Never got a nickel for wrenchin', so I know nuthin'...

Get rid of your electrons. Be positive (+).

As long as the housing, shaft or the gear aren't excessively worn, I'd strip it down, clean it, put in a new module, add a new cap, rotor and coil then put that baby back in.

Thank you Hib, I was considering a spruce -up but I think going with a full cleaning and return it to 1989 condition is the best choice. It's twenty two years old, Somethings got to be looking for the distributor rest home !
