92 LT1 cooling fan runs at startup
I am new to the LT1 vet sceen and one of my cooling fans runs at startup of the engine for 2 or 3 minutes and then shuts off. Is this normal or of not what could cause this.
Thanks,
Steve in Pa.

In addition to the A/C being on there are two other possibilities, many fault codes in the ECM will cause the fans to run, but normally they will run continuously with the key in the on position until the fault code is cleared. Follow the link to read any stored codes if necessary.

My best guess is that you are not hearing the fans at all, until I investigated closely I thought my 93 was doing what you describe. Turns out I was hearing the air injection pump, it sounds exactly like the fan, but it is designed to run on first start to help warm the cats then shut off after a few minutes. Next time you start the car open the hood and look carefully at the fans (you may need a flashlight). I suspect they will be off, then put your hand on the large plastic object just below the drivers side headlight with the hose running to it and I think you will find it is running and if you wait it will quit a few minutes later.

My pleasure Steve, and thanks for YOUR reply, amazing how many ask a question then never post their solution.
