    Default canister purge valve solenoid

I have a 1989 Corvette that when it gets hot it "vapor locks". It runs rough and will not restart until I remove the gas cap.
I have replaced the gas cap, canister and purge valve. I am looking to replace the soelnoid GM# 1997181 Delco # 214-375.
I cannot find this part anywhere. The dealer says it is discontinued.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Technically it can't vapor lock because as soon as pump runs it forces hot fuel / vapor back to the tank giving cool fuel at injectors
Which way does air flow when you remove the cap; in or out of tank?

That would indicate a faulty cap not allowing outside air in to replace fuel used up but you say you have replaced that.
Can you suck through cap? ( from outside to inside )

It is a locking gas cap. If I blow on the inside it does not seem to vent.
This is a new gas cap. I guess I could have gotten a bad one.

Do you know if this should be a vented gas cap or non-venting?
They just informed me that there where different ones. They never asked me before.

Just checked my gas cap on my 1989. It is vented.

Here is a locking gas cap for 75-96 vettes.

    .
    "Non vented"
Allows air but not out .
Fumes in tank are routed to engine through purge canister.
Vented cap allows fumes to escape to atmosphere; greenie's not happy.

I agree with vetteoz on the operation of this cap.

By vented, this gas cap allows air to flow in one direction once a specified pressure is reached. It does not allow air to escape, even under pressure. It is not an open vent that air can enter and escape.

In any case , unless the cap was faulty ; neither style would cause a vacuum buildup in the tank as you suspect is happening

    yep...
I've failed emissions test over a gas cap that leaked. Most test have an adpator with pump to test the caps ability to seal and its check valve operation.
