    Default water pump

How hard is it to change the water pump on a small block for a 1979.

Not hard at all....I just changed the one on my 79. Just clean where the gasket fits between the block and water pump. I used just a little RTV to make sure of no leaks. Good Luck.

-Drain the coolant from the radiator drain cock
-Loosen the alternator and AC compressor (as well as the AIR pump- if you have one)
-Remove the bracketry that attaches to the pump
-Loosen the mechanical fan and then remove the fan blades
-Remove the hoses that attach to the pump
-Remove the bolts from the pump and then pull the pump
-Pull the pulleys off and then the studs. Afterward, attach the studs onto the new pump and reinstall the pump with gaskets onto the block.
