Custom fiberglass dash

I'm considering a project and I am wondering what everyones thought are before I give it a go. I have a complete used, original, set of dash pad for my 77. These pads are the old pads from my car and have since been replaced with new ones. I was going to just throw them out, but then I got an idea. Would it be possible to score them, or pull off the vinyl and lay fiber glass over them thick enough to then sand, smooth paint, and seal. I think it would look really need to have a airbrushed fiberglass looking dash. I'm thinking this would be a lot easier then trying to make dash mold myself, but I'm curious about how to adhear the fiberglass to the pads and whether to remove the existing vinly from them first. This could turn out looking really bad, or really good, but it might be neat to try.

I personally have no idea what to tell you. Talk to somone who does interior work (custom) and they should be able to give you an idea about success potential. Please keep me informed if you try this, I have a 1970 chevy truck I would love to have a corvette dash for.

I covered mine with vinyl.
