Default wiper door limit switch, normally open or closed wiring ?

I have 12 volts at this switch and it is wired as a normally closed switch.this is confusing to me,I would think it should be normally open and held closed by the wiper door bracket arm.It is working in reverse right now.is this a matter of switching leads or is there a wiring problem somewhere else ? or should this just be a matter of getting a normally open switch.confused newbie needs help !!!!!!!!!!

The assembly instruction manual (AIM) has a note stating the limit switch pigtail must mount to the inboard side of the bracket.
