Default Who repairs speedometers?

Removed the speedometer from my brothers 69. It spun up wildly and broke off the needle. Is it better to repair or replace it? I have no literature on who repairs them. Do any of you have any names or personal experience? Thanks

Mike

If you have to send it out, these guys are honest. They've repaired my speedo and tach.

Gail's Speedometer Service. 187 E 16th St. Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (949) 646-9120

I didn't check to see if the phone number is correct, but the address looks right.

Owners names are Tim and Mike. Don't say you got it from Koop, we don't get along so well.

Mike,

A few years ago, a lot of the L81'ers bought 140 mph speedometers from Redline Clock and Gauges. With exchange it was "Cheap" compared to many others.

John and his wife also repair clocks and speedometers. John is easy to talk too and does what he says he'll do.

Here is a link to Speedometer Repair, est. page give John a Call and be sure to let him know you saw this on The Corvette Action Center, and Bud says hi, don't know if he'll remember me or not He might remember all the 140 mph speedometers he sold to 1981 owners

Bud

..And to 1980 owners!

I 'ditto' what you say, Bud. I would place a bet that of everyone here in the C3 section that has had a speedo replaced/repaired, John ("RedLine") would tally up the most votes.

1969's had design problems with the speedo and tach. It took a good number of years for speedo guys to figure out a permanent cure. I'm sure plenty of shops can repair the speedo's, just be sure which ever you pick is old enough to know what the issues were (if you own a car that was never properly repaired) with a '69 but still young enough to remember the cure.

Thanks for all the great information. I talked to John at Redline today and what a teriffic guy. He even told me to call him back when I got home from work and he would talk me through taking the needle off for easier shipping, which I did and he did. It sure sounds like he has a wonderful business but he was very willing to talk. He did remember the CAC, and yes he said he did remember Bud. It gave him a good chuckle. Some of you guys must have been alot of fun. I'll be shipping the speedometer tomorrow and without me even asking he promised to turn it around very fast. He said, "we gotta get that car on the road". I will post updates as I go, but I can tell you that thanks to your help I have complete confidence in John. Thanks

Mike

John is a Great Guy and easy to talk too... AND yes there are a few Charactors around here

Mike do me a favor, next time you talk to John ask him if he got the L81 Flagging on any of the Speedometer Face Plates yet... last I heard he was considering getting some made with the older flagging on them, the 140mph most of us got had the smaller crossflags.. and SAY HI to him for me

Bud

Mike,

I've had a number of my gauges (clock, speedo, and tach) rebuilt at Harrison Gauges in Florida.

Contact Bill Harrison at gldnkngt@adelphia.net - He is honest, friendly, and does excellent work.

I have to repeat - he is honest. He once quoted me a price for a speedo rebuild. I had decided to wait, and when I informed him - he told me he had already done the repair. He said since he had "jumped the gun" without my approval - and did not charge me a cent and in fact did not want accept payment! The speedo repair was beautiful and it works like new.

Ralph
