    Default build date for VIN#

NCRS has a calculator but I could not find it on their site, found it with a Google search! Using the last 5 #'s of your VIN and model year 1965 the results came up (checked twice) as August 24 1964.

NCRS Calculator estimates April 19th of 1965.

Trim tag has body 'born on' date.

In 65 they made 23562 cars. first vin was 194375S100001. The last 194375S123562. (For convertibles, the 4th digit was a 6, not a 3) Your car is a convertible.

So, sequence vin # 15397 means it was made later in the production year. Records show the last car in March 1965 was 13936. Last in April was 16516. Take 16516-13936= 2580 cars made in April 65. Divide that by 22 work days and you have 117.27 cars per day. Your vin 15397-13936= 1461th car made in April or on the 12.4th day of production. April 1, 65 was a Thursday, so 12.4th day is Friday April 16th or Monday April 19th.

They did work some Saturday's......but I don't know which ones. YOU HAVE AN INCOME TAX DAY CAR........SO MISTAKES MAY HAVE BEEN MADE.

Also, 396 engine cars did not start production until vin #13000 and later. So this car fits. There are other items to check also to valadate that it was a 396 when new.

The half shafts to the rear differential MUST be the heavy duty units that have bolted end caps, not little u-joints attaching the universal joints to the diff side yokes and spindles.

There MUST BE A REAR SWAY bar, or evidence one was originally installed.

Finally, the fuel line must be a 3/8 line that routes on TOP of the passanger side frame, and not attached to the inner frame as small blocks were.

The TRIM TAG under the gloive box has lots of numbers and letters. Post those, and we can help you with info as to body paint and interior colors. The BODY BUILD DATE will be in the upper left hand corner and should read (I14,I15, or I16) That is an ( i ) for April.
