Vent Window

Recently obtained a 67 big block coupe. Nice, straight body driver with a marina blue respray (original color). Only cosmetic flaw externally is that the small hinge on the driver side vent window is broken off where it connects to the chrome of the vent window itself. This causes the window to not seal properly in the closed position, creating a lot of wind noise. I have found replacement hinge parts at Eckler's and also Long Island Corvette. Do I have to take apart the whole vent window assembly to fix the problem or can I somehow glue (JB weld?), or braze a new hinge tab to the vent window so that it will close snug? The window rubber is fresh and if I push the window up to where it should sit, the wind noise goes away.

I am not sure if you can fix it that way.

With the prices of midyears going thru the roof I would suggst that what ever it takes repair it properly.I am sure you could find a replacement assembly fairly affordable.

Here's photos of my new toy (I hope the attachments work). I have it in for servicing right now. I may try to replace the whole vent window with the hinge tab attached rather than taking a shortcut. With spring around the corner, should be fun at the car shows locally.

there are complete vent window assemblies for sale on eBay right now - not too expensive either!

Thanks for the above advice. I spoke with my mechanic today and he agreed that a whole vent assembly is the way to go. The hardest part is taking apart the door in order to get at the inner workings.

No the hardest part is commiting to doing it correct and then not starting an entire restoration (youll understand after a while of ownership)

Its not a diffacult job or a project requiring alot of mecanical skills.The most diffucult part will be removing the door lock handel with out damaging the door panel (some times they are brittle ) also if they are cold and you push on them they are more prone to cracking.when I had my doors apart I also soaked my door latch assemblies in a can of carburator cleaner to melt out that 37 year old grease and replace it with new.Definatley take digital pictures (or sketchs) of how things are put together.

So how do you reattach the hinge? I have the same proble. Assembly is out of car.

If you are talking about the small hinge itself, there is a small rivet that connects the two tabs (the one on the vent window to the one on the body of the car). The rivets are available on the Long Island Corvette online catalog (in Door Hardware section). Parts for the assembly are listed for both coupe and verts. My problem is that the hinge tab on the vent window has broken off. Somebody previously, tried to stick it back on but the forces on this area are too much, if you actually open and close the vent, so the repair didn't hold. I'm going to replace the window assembly instead as recommended above. Good Luck.

My driver's side is the same way. the pin on top of the vent was snapped off. If you watch the auctions on ebay you'll probably see the frames go thru the roof. I think Paragon will repair this problem. Need to send them the frame and they'll fix it. I saw this in their catalog a couple of years ago. Have not talked to them about it. If I remember correctly it wasn't that expensive. My $.02
