Lawn Art: 1965 Chevrolet Corvette roadster hasn't moved for nearly 40 years

By: Al Rogers on 6/08/2012, AutoWeek Magazine

Stories of barn finds and yard finds abound in the collector-car world. People put a car away in storage with the intent of one day having time or money--usually both--to restore it. On a recent photo assignment in northern Virginia, we heard about a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette that has been sitting in a yard for nearly 40 years. We took a detour to check it out.

Such a shame it has to sit there like that. Might be a 65, but has 66 hubcaps.

I'm speachless............funny thing is I know of somewhat the same situation in Kansas where there sits a 69 Big Block and a 62 Roadster and there used to be a 63 split window which has been moved inside. The cars are covered with tarps but have set out for 30 years. The old woman who owns them had her son killed when he rolled the 62 coming home from drinking one night. He also owned the 69 and the 63.......and they have all been sitting there ever since. I tried to buy them 20 years ago and just went back there last year to see what happened to them. There they sit except for the 63, which she says one of her kids took home to store it. I once again tried to deal on them and was told they wern't for sale......

It makes me wonder what they think will happen some day. Hopefully they will be restored at some point in the future - maybe 40 more years from now.

It appears to be a '66 but that doesn't really matter. One bad thing about a lot of these Corvette lawn art photos that come up is that most are sitting on dirt. I doubt if any of these has a usable frame left. You park a car on dirt and cover it with a tarp and it becomes a humidity tent. Rusts everything metal and rots the rest.
