WHAT is this? WIPER/HEADLAMP OVERRIDE PART QUESTION

I know this is the wiper/headlamp override piece from some of the manuals I have... but not sure what the middle piece is supposed to be attached to? The plastic part is broken and it seems it was linked to this other line when I pulled it... but the other line was pretty much just laying on top of the bracket. Obviously it belongs to something, but can anyone direct me to a replacement part??? See attached pics and thanks again everyone!

Hello there, that center "piece" is a switch to stop the wipers once they are out in the open on the windshield.
