Default got smoke

i have a small amount of smoke coming from passenger side of engine, looks like it is coming from under exhaust manifold. i believe that would be oil that has leaked onto manifold and is being burnt off when heated? have replaced valve cover gasket and rinsed engine off after to remove any leaked oil. i still have smoke appearing after exhaust heats up. did i screw up putting the new valve cover gasket on or could the head gasket need replacing?

thanks, Mike

How long did you drive it after the valve cover replacement. I found on all my cars it takes a few good drives and getting the engine hot to burn off all the residue. Oil seems to find a lot of good places to hang around and all the degreaser and brakecleaner will never get it all.

unfortunately i haven't been able to drive it much since gasket replacement, so you have a good point just have to see how it goes( hopefully goes away) you know how it goes when baby makes 3 and the 2 seater gets left in the garage more often.

thanks for your response, Mike

When I did the valve cover gasket on my M3 I spilled quite a bit of oil down the side of the head and onto the exhaust. I drove it for about 40 miles and it was all burned off after that.
Don't know about the third wheel (yet ) but I can understand.
Good luck!

ArcticVette/ everyone else... did the smoke clear up after a few miles as most posts had suggested?

I've just changed the valve covers on my '79 vette, and after 3 minutes of letting her idle in the driveway a decent amount of smoke came up from both the left and right sides of the engine. I instantly turned the engine off, as worried in case i did something wrong during cover installation, but was thinking it might just be some spilt oil etc (even though I didn't remember spilling much).

Looking underneath there seems to be a heck of a lot of moisture on the fuel pump, can't belive that it's related to the valve cover change.

Any thoughts?

Really? I use the Vette's two seats as an excuse to get out of the house for father/son time. My son is almost two. He loves the Vette. It is really nice to just get out of the house and mom loves the break!
