Black rubber pad under passenger carpet ??

After removing the passenger side carpet and padding, I found this black rubber pad about 10 inches square and it has a wire coming out that leads to the speaker area in front of the door. Any idea what its function is ?

Sounds like a heating pad - maybe the previous owner's wife had cold feet?

So John, what your saying is that its not a standard production item or option. I'll try to look closer at it now that its not standard equipment.
