Feedback wanted from CAC members on my purchase

I recently purchased an '88 coupe with 34,000 actual miles for $10,300. I have owned the car for over a month now and thus far, have enjoyed the car a great deal. The paint, interior, and mechanicals all appear to be what you would expect for a car with this mileage...excellent. I have a good friend who is a self-proclaimed Corvette expert (I don't feel I'm an expert) who says that I paid too much and that I could have bought a much newer car for this money but did tell me the car is an excellent example.

I'm just curious, what do you think???

don't seem too far off to me. if you gonna use it for a driver and run the miles up, then maybe you coulda bought a higher mile car for less money...

Could you have bought a newer car for the money? YES. Would it have been as nice as the one you got? Maybe. Does it really matter what your friend (?) says or thinks? Not in the least. If you're happy with the purchase, I say ENJOY the car. I don't think you overpaid, I think you got what you paid for.

I’ve owned 4, C4 Corvettes. I would pay the amount you had paid in a heartbeat for a well cared for sample.

Real estate is location, location, location.
One important part of buying a Corvette is condition, condition, condition.

If the overall car shows signs of care, chances are it was owned by an enthusiast and maintained mechanically... IMHO.

you CAN,T change the past

you got a decent deal at the time (Id STILL pay 10K for an EXCELLENT condition C4)but I think the 1995-1996 is the best of the c4 cars

you friend might be jeolous

youll enjoy the car if you take care of it

youll generally have more fun if you join at least two local corvette/hotrodder clubs

I will have had my red 88 coupe for 6 years on Oct 31st. I paid $11K for it in 2001. I was recently offered $10K for it. It is all original and I just turned 46K mileage. I think you got a good deal.

A word of warning. Now that you've got your car, you're going to get serious C5 envy. As in "I need another one so my 88 doesn't get lonely!" I've already moved passed this and have C6 envy.

It sounds like you're happy with your new toy. I wouldn't be concerned about your friend's comments... it's quite common for others to be envious. So you can EXPECT some to nit-pick. I have neighbor for the life of him, cannot understand why I would ever buy a car that I don't drive everyday... he's also the one who's been kind enough in the past to have pointed out the flaws in my paint, the cracks in my interior, the grime on my engine.

I guess I can be thankful for his nit-picking. I did help motivate me to get those things fixed, replaced, etc!.... He's not been as much of heckler nowadays.... it's all good!

It matters not what he thinks, but that you are happy with the purchase. If you bought this car to make YOU happy, you feel the price was fair, when you start it up, you smile, then you win.
That will be the day some geek with a clipboard goes over my vette. I could care less what anyone thinks about it, its mine, i own a piece of American history, it makes us happy to have it.
It wont be tarnished by someone telling me my seat belt bolts are not NOS and such...
Be happy with it yourself, others opinions may help, but there will be those who say you got hosed....most of the time its due to the fact that THEY dont have one and YOU do!
Many guys want to make it the way it came out of the factory, thats awesome and takes alot of dedication....others do to it what they feel makes it their own, personalized and one of a kind...thats just as cool.

Put up some pics, show it off, enjoy the ride!

The low milege cars have one problem, they might have sat for years unused and could have cracked seals and hoses, and its hard on the engine if it sits for a long time, need to keep the engine lubercated(start it every once in a while).

I bought an 85 in June for $4300.

Chuck, I bought my first Vette in July. It is a blue 93' with 8,000 miles. I paid more than NADA said I should have, more than Kelly blue book said I should have but I don't care. I was fortunate to find a practically brand new vette, that had been meticulously maintained and living in a carpeted garage for most of its life. It was the one I wanted and it was only 60 miles from home. Enjoy your car and the info. here at CAC. Never mind what others think of your purchase.

I paid 5000 for my 86 with 120000 miles. I completely restored interior, the outside doesn't have a scratch, although the original red paint is faded. I have invested about 3000 into it so far. that makes my 86 worth 8000, which I probably wouldn't get for it because of paint. But it doesn't matter, cause when I am driving it, it's almost as good as sex!!!!!!!!!! I would not sell mine for 12000. Be happy you got a vett, and let the others say what they will, while they are drooling!!

Opinions are like butt holes...everybody has one. Would've, could've, should've. You know you did the right thing, why second guess yourself.Maybe he would've been happy if you bought a high mileage pig and sunk a boat load of $$$$ in to it.
