My Corvette(s):
1982 Black Fastback
Default Someone Bubba'd my wiring

Hey everyone,

I've been working to install my Hooker Headers (thanks Evolution 1980).

While i was doing that, i found a few things.

1) my oil dipstick had a hole in it. That explains why everything around cylinders 6 and 8 are covered in oil.
2) most of the wires going to my starter had been stripped of their insulation, held together with duct-tape, or melted
(i hate bubba)

There is a sensor mounted between the exhaust ports for cylinder 6 and 8. Does anyone know what it does?
When i started to repair the wires going to the sensor, i found out that 1 wire was grounded to the block, and the other wire was attached to nothing!
All of my instrument gauges work (except tach and this is not it).
The oil pressure sensor is on top of the block near the distrib.
The oil temp sensor (i think) is right next to the oil filter.
The coolant temp is located on the driver's side, between cylinders 1 and 3.

Did the crossfire (now long gone) have an extra sensor in this location?

The sensor in the passenger head is for the aux fan on the radiator.
For the tach, you should have a wire coming off the distributor going thru a filter and then into the harness and down to the bulkhead connector. Its a tan/white wire

There is a sensor on the block that's just in front of the starter wiring that is the Knock sensor for the Crossfire setup. Is that what your talking about?

You can get some Teflon heat shrink tubing to slip over the burnt wires and re-crimp some new ring lugs on the ends.
And there's a clip around the starter solonoid that holds the starter wires away from the exhaust pipes to keep them from melting in the future.

This is on the head, not on the block near the starter. The next time i'm under there, i'll look and see if I can find anything that looks like a knock sensor.
Auxiliary Fan, i bet that's it. It goes into the head and it looks like a temp sensor.
My fan is wired to come on any time the key is in the "on" position (i know that isn't correct).

I don't have the crossfire anymore. The previous owner replaced the fuel injection with a carburetor. That is why most of my wiring is so bad. He just made stuff up as he went a long.

Thanks for your help!

I see the one you mean. A gray connector with blue and black wires going to it.
Yep, Aux fan.
