Fort Walton Beach, FL - The driver of a Corvette that rolled over several times before stopping in the woods off Martin Luther King Boulevard walked away unscathed.
The man, Karl A. Yeager, who is a member of the military, was traveling south on Martin Luther King Boulevard until he apparently lost control after accelerating while rounding a sharp curve, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The sports car flipped “an undetermined amount of times,” according to the FHP release.
Yeager was charged with careless driving, according to FHP.
His car, which was made in 1998, was totaled, and the estimated damages total $20,000.
“He needs to write a letter to Chevrolet and thank the engineers,” said witness Patrick Williams. “He’s lucky to be alive.”
Williams said the man passed him at a high rate of speed.
The accident happened at about 9 a.m. Friday.
The car landed on its passenger side in the woods and could not be seen from the roadway.
A wrecker was called to pull the car out of the woods.
