Default C3 Rear Speaker Solutions- PICS!

So... many folks have posted questions and ideas to address the lack of sound quality in the OEM speakers.

I've modified commercially available speaker enclosures to sit in near OEM locations. I also painted them with claret interior dye. I'm not wild about the Sony speaker grills, but they'll do until I find some that are more conservative. The point of my post is on the enclosure- not the grills.

I'm still working with the flash and lighting- but you get the point!

Sound quality? GREAT!!!!

Lookin' good, DarkShark,

Where did you find the commercially available enclosures, and what did you have to do to modify them?

Looks nice and clean. Good job!

Ralph

Thanks Ralph!

I used a set of these-

I removed the carpet, cut and filled a corner on each box, then covered it in undercoating for texture. Finished it with two coats of interior dye.

Cost: $29 + paint & dye

Nicely done. What holds them in place?

Bob- there are two sheet metal screws inside each speaker box that join them to the rear shade frame. The sides where I removed the corners rest on the wheel wells.

All mounting screws are totally concealed inside the boxes.

I had the same set up on my 1978 only they were carpeted-

will both your t-tops fit in the storage area and go under the speaker boxes when they are installed this way?

So do the boxes help the sound of the speakers? How much were they from Crutchfield?

Default I know this is an old thread

I just purchased these boxes for Christmas. I have been trying to think of a way to improve my sound for a long time in the 81 without losing space. Pretty excited. It has to be better than my current setup (which is 6X9 speakers just sitting in the space).
