Default Brake console leather/vinyl adhesive question

I'm re-applying the leather/vinyl to another fiberglass brake console piece (previous one was shattered) and I was wondering what adhesive to use with the leather/vinyl so that it doesn't mess it up? Don't want it leaking or discoloring the item.

I would think 3M spray adhesive would work, possibly contact cement, but my consoles are the stock fiberglass.

I've never heard of a leather covered brake console. Is this an aftermarket piece?

It's actually a vinyl (to look like leather) saddle covering. It has a pad also attached to it to give cushion. Still aftermarket you think? What were the originals?

Aftermarket or the work of a previous owner. The 68-78 originals were hard fiberglass with a leather-like grain to them, dyed to match interior color.

100% aftermarket. I believe some original pieces were actually molded in the desired colour, no painting required. Unfortunately I tossed the original piece from my '73 but recall that it was molded in medium saddle colour.

Actually the fiberglass brake console era ended in 1976. The redesign of the interior in 1977 included many small but useful upgrades including a molded soft padded brake console with a metal frame. If options included power windows then the window switches were moved from the brake console to the shift console trim plate.

Said the heck with it and bought a replacement and painted it. Looks nice. Thanks everyone for all your help!
