C-3 Transport
Hello All,
I'm trying to decide if I should have a '71 I recently purchased transported from NM to DE or if I should drive it home. (I already tried driving it home once and that's a loooong story that ends badly)
Right now I'm leaning toward having it transported and am getting quotes.
Does anyone having any recomendations of who to use, or, more importantly, who NOT to use.
Any and all comments are appreciated,
Bernie O.

No idea on who to use or what to expect but if it were me I would ship it home. Post some pics when you get a chance...

Horseless Carriage (owner is a collector), Reliable, Intercity, or FedX/Passport all have very good reputations.
Now, just get that car home already!

I have a couple recommendations, if the carrier requires you to sign the title because of some bogus cross state laws they come up with, you walk away.
I would have the car appraised before transport. Your insurance company could recommend a reputable appraiser in the area where the car is. Acquirer appraised amount of insurance for the car through your insurance agent.
Sounds like a pain, but if the car is damaged or LOST during transit you will have legal representation that way.

I've never dealt with them, but I have heard good things about horseless carriage.
(you could always rent a truck and tow it yourself )
Good Luck!

When Cruzer99 moved from Roseland Ca. to Granite Fall NC he used "State to State" to ship his 99 Vert to my place here in Old Fort NC!!!Although it took them 2 days longer that was planed,it got here without a Scratch!!! The price was reasonable too!!! Less than $800.!!

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions; I really appreciate it.
I did call a company that advertises in "Corvette & Chevy Trader" magazine; I guess they're some kind of a broker and I've since received about 15 quotes from different companies with prices from US$ 800 to US$ 1100 with most being in the US$ 800 - 900 range.
Horseless Carriage has not replied, but I think they are all enclosed trailers so are probably a bit more expensive; maybe I'll call them myself and get a quote anyway.
Now all I have to do is make up my mind whether I want to drive it myself or have is hauled. Right now I'm leaning toward having it hauled; it would prbably cost me US$ 800 just in gas to drive it home !
Thanks again for all the input,
Bernie O.

DO NOT use a "broker" - you won't know who will show up or what kind of rig they'll have (Redneck Ronnie and his Rusty Rig, usually); only deal direct with the transport company (one of the name outfits BarryK mentioned or one for whom you have solid recommendations).

John,
thanks for the input; I am getting down to decision time - the mechanic in Taos, NM received the parts I sent him and will likely be finished with the car next week
Time me to put up or shut up.

Sharkcar71,
Yeah, I've already got plenty of memories with this car, thank you very much. Started out in San Diego with the hope of "driving a classic Corvette across the country". Got as far as Las Vegas where the car fried an alternator and left me stranded in the middle of a 3-lane highway in Las Vegas. I had US$ 130 tow bill and a US$ 137 repair bill. Got as far as Albuquerque and fried another alternator and had the master cylinder fail. US$ 480 for another alternator and master cylinder and also found that the trans cooler lines are leaking. I've sent the parts to Taos (where we ended up before pulling the plug on the trip) and he should be done with the car next week.
At one point we considered setting it on fire, pushing it off the nearest cliff and calling the insurance company !!
I WAS really looking forward to the trip, but I'm basicallly chickens*** now to attempt the remainder of the trip. This is, after all, a 35 year old car ---- and I should be old enough to know better.
Aaaghhh - just trying to recapture some of my lost youth, I guess, but I'm really leaning toward having the car hauled home. And, I'm starting to run out of vacation.
Bernie O.

When I was calling on quote for potentially trailering my car to CruiseFest in Colorado Springs, the prices were averaging around $850.
I idea of renting a truck and car hauler and doing it yourself doesn't sound all that bad either. That way you are never apart from your baby...
If you are going to have someone move your car, be sure to find out if it's going to be moved with other cars. If so, you can pay more to have your car on top so some other car doesn't take a leak on it. On the other hand, being on the bottom side keeps it somewhat sheltered from the elements. Ahh, whatever...

Reliable hauls cars in an enclosed trailer. They are also protected from leaks from the cars on top by plastic sheets hanging under the top cars! They take VERY good care of what they haul! I know they haul lots of exotics...eg..Lamborghinis...Ferraris.etc. Passport also does the same thing. Hope this helps! Good luck!..Dave
