Converible Top Waterproofer
What does anyone recomend for treating the convertible top?
3M Scotchguard or something else?
I gave "Ruby" a bath yesterday and noticed that the top did not repel water at all.

I'm new to the convertible club, but on some recommendations from folks here I tried Raggtop. It was easy to apply as an aerosal and seems to be working well. I haven't been caught in the rain and I'm careful around the top when I wash the car. It usually only gets a little misting with some heavier drops in spots. It repels water nicely where it gets wet and I was in your shoes when I bought the car in July. I don't think the top had been treated since 1993, as it wasn't repelling water at all. Good luck.

You did not say what your convertible top material is. My 1994 has a canvass top that I wash with Ivory Soap. It has not leaked in any rain storm. It still repells water, but does not bead. When I dry it with a clean towel, the water soaks into the towel. I too have heard that RagTop is the choice for many convertible tops. I plan to order a bottle to keep on hand. BTW, starting in 1960, I always washed my convertible tops (1954. 56, 66, 91) with Ivory Soap (dishwashing) and never had a leak through the top. But the C1s and C2s convertible tops did leak around the top weatherstripping. But my removable hardtops never did leak anywhere.

My top is only a year old and still beading water but I need to look into getting Ragtop too. I know 6 Shooter has recommended it in threads before. Sounds like good stuff.

The '93 Ruby had a cloth or fabric top. Raggtop would work very well on it, as it does also for the vinyl tops. There are two types of Raggtop, however. Make sure you buy the one that is correct for your particular top.
I am also going to move this to Care & Detailing as it will generate more responses there.

I've also used Ragtop on my cloth '96. That stuff must really stick and protect, because I got some overspray on the windshield and side glass and it is a @#$%^ to get off. As long as it stays on the top it's OK with me. The real problem I have is that the indoor cotton back cover I use has a tendency to leave lint on the ragtop. I use a lint brush to get that off, which is another $%#&^
