Default windshield washer pump

Anyone have any idea how to replace the windshield washer pump on an '81
? I can get to the pump through the gill on the driver's side but it bolts to the bottle via a nut on the inside of the bottle. Hate to have to dismantle everything just to get to the nut.

Funny you should mention this. I just removed the washer pump and washer fluid bottle. I had to remove the brake master cylinder and cruise control servo in order to get the bottle and pump out. While in there and parts removed I am also replacing the fuel vapor canister. Already ordered all parts from Corvette Central. I found that the easiest way to remove the fuel vapor canister was to remove the front driver's side wheel and remove the plate/cover just below the canister and side grill. Once the plate and canister are removed you might also have some decent access to the bottom portion of the washer bottle. Unfortunately, it is a PITA. But it can be done with a little time and effort. Be careful with the electrical connections to the washer pump and cruise control servo.

Is your reservoir two pieces? If you look close I think it is. The neck section on my 1977 is removable to get better access to the inside of the washer reservoir. If so with a long extension a wobbly and deep socket the pump should come out. I used a pair of 11” needle nose pliers to remove the filter nut from the reservoir. Once the pump is removed from the car I would bench test it with a 12 volt battery to make sure it’s the problem.
At least on my 1977, anytime the ignition switch is in the on position the yellow wire to the washer pump is hot, and when you push the button to activate the pump you are grounding the blue wire on the other side of the pump and circuit is complete.

Yep, suppose that would work if your just trying to replace the washer pump. Can't imagine it would be easy but none of this really is...

Default washers

hello i guess the reason you want to remove it is because it is not working or pumping, just a small tip incase this is the reason, if it has ljust stopped working in the last few days this wont work, but if they have not been working for a long time say months or longer, do this remove one of the washer hoses coming from the near the wiper get hot water and blow down with your mouth or a small hand pump, keep doing this until you think there is water getting to the pump, then connect it up and try your wiper motor, this has been very successful over the years for me , what happens is the pump rubbers dry out and stick inside and requires water to free them, and it acts like priming them, ussually they will free and start working, regards .
