View Full Version : Preview: Hwy 28 - a few photos
Since Rascal mentioned a Hwy 28 (aka The HellBender) cruise during our upcoming 2007 Fall DragonFest, I thought I'd post some photos I took when I went back to the Dragon in June.
Enjoy!
Until this trip, I had not driven Hwy 28. Since we stayed at the Fontana Resort we drove it daily during our stay.

We stopped a couple of times at the HellBender Pitstop for tees and a few other items.

More to come....
On the day we arrived it was humid and I took this photo of the mist rising above the river.

In this shot, the water was almost completely hidden by the mist. The scene just appealed to me because it looked so peaceful and serene.

This was an incredible view on the way to the resort.

I had to stop and take a photo of the cliff face...

The views are incredible even on cloudy raining days like this one.

We need to look for other options besides the Dragon for the fall run. There is a big police presence there and they are writing stupid tickets. I was driving a Cobra there a couple of weeks ago and got stopped repeadly for no reason except to screw with us. We spent the rest of the day on the NC side. Very, very nice and really better for a group event. 28 is awesome. Just my 2 cents. I'm personally not going back until they leave. Check out the Dragon's wedsite and you'll see more of the ridiculous abuse of power. I've never believed that all cops are a**holes but all the cops on the Dragon ARE a**holes.

I know there's some insanity going on over that way, most of what I'd heard was that it'd calmed down by now some...guess not? I have already been thinking about highway 28 though, down to the waterfalls we scouted out in the spring after most people had left. We can also think about taking the Cherahala Skyway all the way out to 75 and coming back up it to get back to alcoa. If we do the loop around and throuth the Cherokee Nat. Forest, that's a nice day long and fun cruise as well, so even though we'll be going through the dragon a few times, we'll be spending a lot of time away from it as well.

As long as I can drive and drink at the same time. There were so many cops that we had to wait until the NC side to open a cold one.:rotfl That Cobra was awesome. I would have spilled mine anyway.:boogie
