Default better economy

Any good tips on building an engine for getting good gas milage? Any ideas for good carb and cam selection? I have only ever buit motors for power, never the other way around. This is going in a 1980.

Don't know about the engine but I the gear ratio and overdrive/transmission type would help out a little for fuel economy.

yeah i was thinking about getting either a 6 speed or a 700r4. that will be down the road for sure
