Corvette crashes into house in Mishawaka, IN
Corvette crashes into house in Mishawaka, IN
WSBT-TV Report
A witness says a Corvette may have been going more than a hundred miles-per-hour before crashing into a house this morning.
It happened just before 1:30 a.m. Friday on the corner of Main and Broadway Streets, across from the Battel Center, in Mishawaka.
WSBT-TV's Kelli Cheatham, who was at the scene, spoke with witnesses and others who woke up in the middle of the night as a result of the crash.
There were three people inside this house at the time. One of them told Cheatham that he's very lucky because the car came to rest partially inside his bedroom.
Dr. Michael Jagger, a local pediatrician, said he was just getting ready to go to bed and heard squealing tires and a crash.
"It happened so fast there wasn’t time to be frightened," Jagger said.
"The car was part-way in my bedroom and so I just thank God that I wasn’t there yet, which I would have been within one minute, probably."
When the car came to a stop, it was touching his bed. The impact of the crash also destroyed the computer in the next room.
"Lots of times I’m in there checking e-mail before I go to bed," Jagger continued. "I could've been doing that, too."
The driver of the Corvette — the only person in the car — was taken to the hospital, and there's no word on his condition right now.
The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) is investigating this accident.
Investigators told WSBT that it's standard procedure to bring the FACT team in any time there's a high-speed crash, or a fatal or near-fatal accident.

crash
I'm betting a 0.15 BA for the driver. We probably will never get an update, but that is what I am betting.

Followup from IndyStar.com:
A man crashed a Corvette into a house early today after officers spotted him driving more than 100 mph, police said.
No one inside the house was injured, but the driver of the car, Craig Schmidt, 33, of Elkhart, was listed in critical condition this afternoon at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police Capt. Tim Spencer said Schmidt was spotted going more than 100 mph about 1:25 a.m. today. When he stopped at a light, police officers approached the car. The light turned green and Schmidt took off, Spencer said.
"By the time they got six blocks down the street the car was out of sight already," Spencer said.
Police then learned he had crashed into the house in Mishawaka, just east of South Bend. Skid marks indicate he was going more than 100 mph when he went over some railroad tracks and lost control, Spencer said.
The owner of the house, Dr. Michael Jagger, said he was getting ready for bed when he heard the squeal of tires and the crash.
"It happened so fast there wasn't time to be frightened," Jagger said. "The car was part way in my bedroom, and so I just thank God that I wasn't there yet, which I would have been within one minute, probably."

They appear to be getting started a little early this year in Indiana with the 500 mile race.
Another C5 bites the dust!
Mine should start appreciating in value soon.

Driver remains in critical condition after crash into home
Tribune Staff Report
MISHAWAKA — A driver who was severely injured early Friday morning when he crashed his car into a home remains in critical condition at South Bend’s Memorial Hospital.
According to a police report, Craig Schmidt, 33, of Elkhart, fled from police officers who tried to stop him as he drove south on Main Street at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
Officers lost sight of Schmidt as they tried to follow him, then discovered he had crashed his silver Corvette into a home at 931 N. Main St.
Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
