Default Anyone had this noise?

I am at my wits end.

When I accelerate full throttle I get a horrible rattle coming from the front of my 2001 C5 mn6. I have taken it to the "stealership" and the head mechanic can't figure it out. He says it is not the engine but the sound is like an old car I once had with bad bearings.

My Vette only has 34,000 miles on her and I want this sound (rattle) to get fixed!!

Any thoughts?

Yes - nothing but premium! Although I cannot tell the head mechanic at the dealership was positive it was not an engine noise. He was thinking something loose and vibrating when it is pushed hard - over 5500 RPM

Over 5500??
That could be interesting to reproduce.
Anyone take a scan, monitoring knock sensor or any other data?
Anyone us an EVA2 to monitor noise produced when driven??
Allthebest, c4c5

Hi C4C5:

No - the only effort made was to take a test drive and then he said he would look through the service bulletins to see if he could find anything - which it turned out he couldn't.

I am NOT a mechanic by any stretch! I am concerned and frankly I don't trust the dealership. We live in a place called Regina Sasakatchewan (have you quit laughing yet!!) which is North of North Dakota and they sell one or two Corvettes a year here. They probably don't work on any more than 5-6 a year and that's all model years combined so I am worried about how much they really know. If you could suggest the tests that they could undertake I could probably translate correctly exactly what I wanted done.

In fairness the service manager is a corvette guy and belongs to the Corvette Club but I never seem to find him at the shop.

Thanks for your help

I should have added that the noise occurs when the pedal is to the floor and I spelled "Saskatchewan" wrong -Yikes - I wonder if anyone noticed?

Young Nurse .. "Have you seen that old sailor in room 305? Honestly, he actually has a tatoo on his peniz and it says swan!"

Old Nurse .. "Oh! Him, nice old fellow and, it says Saskatchewan!"

I thought it was fuel too. Do you have a high ethanol content up there?

Sounds like a simple fix to me. Don't accelerate at full throttle and the horrible rattle will not happen. Simple!

Yes unfortunately we do - up to 15%

Still seems like everybody thinks it's the engine?

Is it a rattle you hear or something like a belt slapping? Could be the tensioner. Just my opinion.

It appears that people are thinking that "pinging" is a possible source of the noise. Many of us have some experience with that. However, none of us have heard your car and we can't make a diagnosis from a distance. I am no mechanic; I couldn't make a diagnosis in person!

I think an inspection and evaluation by a skilled mechanic is in order. And listen to c4c5specialist. He knows what he is talking about.
Jim
