GARMIN GPS
Dave got the $300 unit. It will not work on a bus. Reason?
Probably doesn't want 54 direction advisors.

Have you contacted Garmin about this problem? They are very good about customer service.

Per their web, heavy foilage, atmosphere, autos - sometime, under water, under ground and buildings and satellite position may interfere or prevent function.
He travels little so it is more of a toy than a necessity.
There is quite a bit of info on their site and one must establish an acct to mail them.
Thanks.

always heard that Garmin was the best-Bus shouldn't have anything to do with it. They use them also. Suggest he has faulty unit and Garmin customer service should fix him up, keep us updated. Thinking about buying new unit so interested in his experience or any one else's . thanks

Ck their website. It did mention about antennas also as one of the available accessories.

But if the unit came with built in antenna, it shouldn't need an external one. Don't know what the geographical layout in your area is but the only time I've ever lost a signal was in downtown Chicago amongst all the tall buildings and under tunnels.
I would call Garmin. They are good at customer service. The first c330 I bought wasn't working right. I called them, they tried a few things over the phone like resetting the unit, etc... But the unit was just defective. I drove there, got myself a new unit, had them update the software and they paid for my parking.

I would agree. The only time I have lost signal is in parking ramps and tunnels. I somtimes drive with it just laying on the console and it works fine. I have the nuvi 660, but I would guess that the same technology is used in all of their units.

How do you like the 660. Is it worth the extra bucks -still running about 6 bills I hear

I'm happy with it. One of the main incentives was the larger screen size. It also is supposed to have a better receiver and has Bluetooth capability and MP3. I'm glad I went with the 660, but it's always a tradeoff between cost and features and what they are worth to you.

Garmin 340
My 340 has only lost signal when I have been indoors on occasion programming it. It even asks me if I am indoors, and if so goes to a different mode, I guess it stops searching for the satellites til I am outdoors again. Never lost a signal while driving, but haven't gone through any long tunnels either.
